Rogers was skinnier. He was measured back in a time where players/agents were able to fudge the results alot easier. He was around 188-190 coming out.
Curious to see the narrative after todayâs molly-whopping.
I think that heâs such a sure thing as a prospect has left you (and probably others) reaching a bit to find something to worry about. If anything the fact that he rolled up on like that and was able to come back and make a crucial play should be reassuring.
doubt. The oline has been trash all year. He still has all the tools. The team was severely mismatched and anyone who was being honest understood that.
The only QB coming out that interests me is Williams
The rest are all gambles.
The odds tell us that a stud QB comes out 1 out of every 2-3 drafts. And the chances of multiple are slim. And yes there are some crazy good examples of years 2-3 or even 4 came out at once. And maybe 2024 is the year. But the odds tell me doubtful
6â2" 201 was the NFL combine measurements.
I think those odds are rising by the year as these kids spend their whole lives with specialized QB coaches, play 7 on 7 all year, study tape and defenses, and just generally see thousands more reps than QBs used to. Theyâre stepping into the league far more prepared.
Its a pretty talented class aswell
Idk about superstars, 3 of them not including sanders has it imo (Williams, maye, penix)
Can see a chunk of good starters from this class
Look up Steve Smithâs measurements. Steve said he actually hovered around 168-172 at the time, but was able to fake a 180+ lbs weight. There are tricks agents teach their players. And when Rogers came out it was easier to fake weight, because it was common for the top prospects to NOT compete at the combine. So the trick of the day was to show up âheavyâ at the combine, knowing you donât have to run at that weight. Then do the physical stuff at the pro day, producing numbers that are not directly correlated to the combine weight.
Charles Rogers was a bean pole. The big pads worn at the time distorted it a bit.
That and I think far more teams are realizing the prudence of:
1:) build the ecosystem for young QB success
2:) then add the QB
This is exactly my concern with Harrison. 6â4" 205 is a bean pole IMO. Harrison is more talented than Rogers IMO though, so no question there. Not a huuge concern, its just that its seems like Harrison Jr goes down in big games and apparently he played injured all last year with an ankle. His upper body doesnât look too bad but he has some chicken legs.
His dad was super skinny as well.
Marvin Jr seems to be bigger than his dad was. I am not seeing a âpatternâ with his injuries so far. And with each instance, I am seeing a logical reason for it that could have happened to anyone. For instance against Notre Dame his ankle got rolled up on while run blocking. He jammed his shoulder against Indiana after a stupid pass by the QB. He came down and while trying to turn he jammed his shoulder as he hit the ground. To me thatâs a play where he just needs to be reminded to never let his arm get in back of him when heâs hitting the ground. âLearning how to fallâ is a part of being a long time pro.
6â4" 205 equates to a bean pole now? Thatâs the equivalent of 6â 194 pounds which seems like a fairly normal WR weight.
I do think that Harrison should probably gain 5-7 pounds but I donât think itâs a big deal if he doesnât.
There were a lot of concerns about Devonta Smithâs weight. Heâs been fantastic and missed less games than either Waddle or ARSB.
Yeah, it could be nothing. Randy Moss was a similar weight. But I remember having this same debate about Andre Johnson vs Charles Rogers and I was all about Rogers that year. I didnât know the depth of his personal problems but I must say that Andre Johnson held up much better than Rogers with the extra 30 lbs.
I was on the opposite side of that ledger. My theory was simple. if the Lions wanted to run the 49ers version of the WCO, they needed a WR built like Terrell Owens to run those crossing routes. Charles Rogers wasnât it. Andre Johnson was.
Add in the failed/adulterated drug test, I wanted nothing to do with CRog.
I was thinking about this last night. Is Xavier Legette this yearâs Devon Witherspoon? Starting to feel like the rocket ship isnât going to stop and he ends up going high in round 1.
