The recruitniks really nailed that 2023 OT class. 8 of the top 11 on 247 have starter potential although a couple may be sliding inside to OT.
Speaking of … Keegan Trost … can he hack it at RT or is a shit to OG a fait accompli? Seems to be one of the more debated ones out of OTs on the fence in terms of position change.
Just a wonderful sentence clause here thanks to auto-didn’t-really-correct.
I am solidly in the iOL convert camp, but as with any of them, they should probably be tried at RT first to see if they can hack it. It’s always difficult to tell which ones can, never in a million years did I think Goedeke would hold up.
You lean heavily that way in general. For you the onus seems to be on the prospect to prove he’a an OT prospect. I tend to lean towards the hope springs eternal camp.
It’s mostly about prognostication honestly. It just seems that the vast majority of guys we’re questioning end up inside, so that’s the way I end up leaning a majority of the time too. Though certainly not all of them.
And some of them I was more 50/50 on. I thought Fuaga could stick at T, though I certainly didn’t expect him to play on the left side like he did as a rookie (he’s now back at RT I believe). I thought Will Campbell would be an elite guard and OK tackle (and honestly still sort of feel that way), but OK tackle > elite guard, so I was fine with that one too.
In fact anyone who can be an OK tackle should probably stay outside. I just think most would be below average. Like Thuney when he had to play there last year. He was one I was dead set had to shift inside.
I’m more 50/50 on Mauigoa this year too. Certainly I think he should be tried outside first. I just think he has a pretty wide range of outcomes at tackle (and like Fuaga I think it should be RT only). Honestly before last year’s draft I was leaning tackle on Miles Frazier, he was one where I went against consensus.
I’ve fallen for the idea of an OC that loves pulling OL having this symmetrical setup of Samoan monsters at OT. He can pull from OG too of course but we’ll let a different ass kicker do that.
He may end up there, we’ll see. A big part of the reason TeSlaa skyrocketed was due to blowing out his testing plus dominating the Senior Bowl. If Taafe does both he will skyrocket as well, but most prospects don’t do both. And I don’t see an athlete who will blow out his testing on tape, but we’ll see.
Agreed. Community affair. Hell the thing is pretty good at policing itself at this point with each selector @’ing the selector behind them and everyone else harping on people to pick until it’s their turn.
