Is there any protections for having him designated as this…
For example do we have exclusive rights to slide him onto the PS?
Or can we carry 54 with him ?

It’s just for the preseason, plus I think if he’s cut, he can be exempt on the practice squad, but he might get claimed.
In 2023, Max Pircher was exempt for the preseason and also held a spot on the PS as exempt also.
I’m excited about Hassanein, so I’ll be disappointed if he doesn’t make the 53man roster.

Same. But in all honesty…
He’s drafted about the same spot James Houston was. And he was cut to the PS
And we gave him this designation …which only benefits if he is on the PS
I kinda expect him to get cut unless he goes insane in camp
But he’s so raw hard to see that

I asked this question in another thread and was told since he was born in usa or went to american college he wasnt eligible for exemption. Guess that was wrong answer. Not gloating just wondering what the rule is?

I always thought if you played college football, you wouldn’t qualify. I guess I was wrong.
Here’s an excerpt from the CBA about the requirements to be exempt for practice squad, I’d assume that it’s the same rule for an exemption from the 90man roster:
The League may elect to allow some or all Clubs to add to their Practice
Squads one additional player, who shall not count against the limit above, whose citizenship
and principal place of residence are outside the United States, its Territories, and
Canada (“International Player”). The League’s election in any one season shall not determine
or affect its election in any subsequent season. Such International Players shall be
subject to the same terms and conditions of employment that apply to other Practice
Squad players except that they may not, during the term of their Practice Squad Contract,
negotiate or sign an NFL Player Contract with any Club. In addition, notwithstanding the
provisions of Section 4 below, such International Player shall be eligible to serve on a
Practice Squad for three additional seasons after the completion of the player’s year(s) as
an International Player. As set forth in Section 3 below, the weekly salary for such International
Players shall not be included in the employing Club’s Team Salary and shall
instead be deducted from the calculation of the Salary Cap in the same manner as any
Player Benefit Cost. Any NFL Club may, but is not required to, reimburse an International
Player for the actual, ordinary and reasonable legal expenses and filing fees incurred by the
player in securing a visa permitting the player to work in the United States.
It Looks like the primary requirements are citizenship and the players principal residence (I know school is considered temporary).

He is not James Houston , James was not willing to do what ever it takes. The only similar’s is the 6th Rd, so you basically you think all 6th rders will be cut, then maybe added to the particle squad. It’s a wonder St Brown is any good at all being picked in the 4th Rd.
Ahmad my surprise you, we may have just got Jared Allen. If Davenport gets injured I can see this guy starting by the end of the year.

Hey @Jman and I were the only ones with Hassanein on our crush lists before the draft, so you know he really likes the guy. He’s just saying using it as a hypothetical to work out the details of the foreign exemption with the practice squad. And most 6th rounders ARE cut league-wide, so it’s not like it’s a question without merit.
I think he’ll make the team too, but if we sign Z it gets pretty crowded.

I didn’t have anyone on my crush list, but I had Hassanein on most of my early mock drafts. Out of that cluster of Edges he just seemed the most Lionsy.

Right once we started to hear all the background stuff he really stood out as someone we were gonna love. I’m kicking myself for not including him in my prediction mock but I stuck with only guys from the visit list, and he wasn’t on it.

I had him in plenty of drafts, just like Teslaa. Mogs was a 6th he showed pretty well . He will make the Team Holmes marveled over him. Plus he is flat out better then a cut and sign you 2 are saying. He will make the 53 and I think he is going to surprise many.

You wouldn’t have drafted him that high just for the roster exemption. He’s only exempt for the preseason, if he makes final cuts, he counts on the roster. He’s exempt for the PS only if no one claims him AND he decides to sign a PS contract with us.

I like how he fits as a person and player. I also think he is a good fit when it comes to “other things.” The Detroit area is not short on communities from the middle-east. More specifically it has a thriving egyptian community. And of course, one of our biggest stars was named after an Egyptian God.

I would be pretty stunned in he doesn’t make the 53. But @Jman asking if we could use him as a foreign exception on the practice squad - since you know, he’s our only foreign guy - was to find out if it was possible. It’s covering for a typical scenario, which is why he brought up Houston, because despite what you seem to think:
MOST of them do get cut. (And saying he thinks ALL of them should be cut is some impressive hyperbole).
And as someone who had him on his crush list, do you really think he’ll surprise me? I loved the guy. But I can’t see the future. And like I said, most of them get cut.
If we sign Z, Wingo heals, and we decide to keep 9 (like we did last year) of: Hutch, Davenport, Z’Darius, Paschal, Levi, Tyleik, Reader, Wingo, Lopez, Muhammad, Hassanein, O’Connor, what 9 are you keeping? I still bet Hassanein makes it, but don’t act like that wouldn’t be a tricky decision.

The hyperboye is you, he made a comment about being a cut and to the practice squad, I don’t care what you think and say , I disagree and said so, you want to turn it in about draft day crush and how much he loved him good for you. I disagree again, and by the way I have that right. At least I can pick a view, your playing both sides and trying to give me shit. Dude we both wanted to draft him, because we both thought he is a fit and would succeed here.
But it’s not beyond the realm of possibility that a 6th rounder gets cut. Factor in he’s a free roster spot now potentially and we are just looking at the possibilities here.
Yes Mahogs showed out well, but wasn’t he NFI for the first half of the season.
And wasn’t Houston on the PS for the first half of his rookie season.
You’re taking this thread and trying to turn it into your own flag plant for Hassanein…
