Canary trap is the term. You send out intel with slightly differing stories to different parts of the org or press, and wait for the rumors to get back/stories to get written and identify rhe leaker.

Millen never knew who the Lions were drafting until we were on the clock.
So, leakers never really affected the Lions during his tenure. Thus proving he was a fantastic GM.
