That was an amazing game to watch, remember it well.

Pretty safe to say it will NEVER be duplicated…
with the way current bullpens are utilized.

I think MadBum is a no doubt. The old writers that do the voting only pay attention to post season performance and longevity numbers. Dizzy Dean only had 4 great years but he was the ace for the old gas house gang and the won. Guys no matter how good on crappy teams don’t get the run. I think peak performance should trump longevity. A guy like JR Richard was the most intimidating pitcher in baseball for about a 3 or 4 year run but he was on some crappy Astro teams and didn’t have the longevity.

I think Johan Santana should be in the Hall of Fame. His profile is basically the modern Koufax.

Id like to see at least 10 starters in before Felix Hernandez, Richard and Santana and Blue and Tiant included.

That said I’m not sure I want any of them in the Hall of Fame at all. Maybe but not 100% sure

Also, Bubba Baker should be in the Hall.

The sack total not becoming official until 5 years into his career is why he isnt.

Also because he played for two dogcrap franchises

Those stats don’t tell the whole story. Koufax had more complete games in a season than Santana had in his career. Koufax had 2 years with 10+ war. For his last 6 years Koufax may have been the best pitcher in MLB history.

As for Santana I think he would compare well to Morris, Sutton and some of these other guys who were just good pitchers.

They don’t. Santana is a pale shadow Koufax, for sure. Lefties take longer to ‘get it’, oftentimes and in 1961 he Got It.

He also benefittted from a pretty shitty era of pitching competition. None of the late 60s through 80s horses had gotten going really, and the top end old guard was falling off (Bunning/Spahn) and the bridge guys were not the same kind of top level strikeout pitcher (Ford/Marichal etc.)

Really hard to compare across eras, but Sandy belongs on a top 10 list, as does Satchel Paige.
