Got an invite from my bosses bosses boss for a “confidential sync - please prioritize” tomorrow for 10 minutes. I have never met with him and only yesterday spoke to him directly in our monthly business review.
There was no context and no other attendees. I messaged his executive assistant whether there was any context that i needed to prepare something for the call to which she replied
“No context & dont be worried lol”
Want to believe her and even if i was fired tomorrow i will be fine etc just curious of the consensus of the forum. I am a sr technical program manager in the cloud industry and have been working here for over 5 years for reference.
We also just did layoffs and already notified everyone last month, i wasnt impacted. Salary wise i am at the low end of the band but we dont do comp reviews with skip levels etc
Just an odd thing seeing as we have never met or even had a conversation prior to yesterdays business review. it was randomly added for the tomorrow with 0 context.
Again i will be fine either way, severance isnt a bad thing, but just curious as to the thoughts of my lions fan family.
Where I work they give people at least 6 weeks notice before laying them off so they can look for another job, and they get preference for any open jobs within the hospital. There isn’t any lead up to it. Hopefully they aren’t giving you the axe.
Don’t shower or shave, walk in smoking a Marlboro red and ask him if this is going to take long because you have a lunch date with a hottie. Now…you’re either fired or a new VP. Best to get that shit out of the way.
It is a remote call and HR isnt an attendee at least on the list, just the director and I. 10 minutes and no context is what got me confused and wondering but all things considered I dont think I really will care long term what comes out of the call barring him asking for some unrealistic deliverable that i have to try to push us towards.
With that said, most that are saying that 3 rungs up dont fire individual contributors that dont report to them tend to be right in my experience in corporate life unless of course you pick a fight with them or make them look stupid on a call.
I dont know what will happen it is just a weird thing overall. I have been top tier or high value 3 (annual reviews) every year i have worked for this company as well but i am not foolish enough to think that protects me in anyway from getting the axe.
