So, there was a thread last week around expectations and at the time, I said it was NFC championship appearance or bust.
Maybe I was drunk on the kool aid.
After today’s game, putting the incredible comeback win aside, I think this group is capable of a postseason win and division title. But when you take into account how they played today, the perpetual struggle against QBs with a pulse, the Baltimore fiasco, and the fact a few NFC teams that also look fantastic, we feel one year away from being a “final four” team.
I’m honestly trying not to have any post season expectations. I expect they’ll win the division. Whatever happens after that, happens. Surprising things always have a way of coming round in the playoffs so who knows?
One game at a time. Enjoying the ride. If we win the super bowl amazing. If we win one playoff game amazing. Whatever happens it will be fun, Brad and dan will add to the team in the offseason and we do it all over again next year, win the division, win playoff games compete for a super bowl. There is nothing to worry about.
As I said in the other thread, my “expectations” are the same. I don’t change them week to week.
Beating the Chargers meant winning a game in November. That was great for me. Beating the Bears means we have now won multiple games in the same month…for the 3rd consecutive month. I love it. The next set of expectations was to compete for a division title, get into the playoffs and win a playoff game. We are still on our way.
This is a young and developing team still guys like Gibbs, Jameson, LaPorta, Paschal, Campbell, etc will all be better by the time the playoffs come. Not a single one of those guys was more then 14 games player.
49ers lost three straight. Granted they were missing some O players they expected to be back and in the Lions case, they currently have some D players missing that they expect to be back.
Is anyone changing expectations on the 9ers? No. Get the wins. Hope the two teams above you (1 in this case but we’ll see tomorrow) lose some games and go to town.
Did I predict NFCC game? No I did not, but you did so own it boss. Come that game you’ll either be eating crow or you’ll have free reign to gloat away about how you called it two months ago.
Stop wavering and being bi-polar, sir. Stand your ground!
I think we did pretty good against Fields. We actually adjusted after the first drive, and if you take off the 39 yard run with the missed tackle, he was just a mediocre running back. I think we can build on this success.
There are no style points in the NFL. Turnovers happen and the Lions did what good teams do… find a way to win. 4 turnovers and won the game. Very impressive. There is no reason why this team can’t win the Super Bowl.
It’s ok to have high expectations. But when many say that if they don’t make NFC championship it’s a negative season….I don’t get that. If you told me the Lions would win the NFC North and would win a playoff game—yeah, I’d take that. I guess success has bred some unreasonable expectations. It’s ok to be drunk on the kool-aid.
The 1 seed is there for the taking. The Lions get that and then all roads go through Detroit. Haven’t had a home playoff game in 30 years the roof will blow off Ford Field. There is no “next year” it’s only here and now and the Lions need to seize this opportunity. You never know when it will come around again.
This is the only sensible answer at this point IMO.
Baseline expectation is that the Lions make the playoffs and should be able to get home field in 1st round.
From there, who knows and who could possibly know.
This team is hardly a juggernaut right now. A first-round loss would be very disappointing, but hardly shocking. A first-round win would be thrilling, but also not shocking.
The biggest variable in this team’s performance is the defense. This defense can spin gold and lay eggs. Aaron Glenn has some work to do.
Btw: this team isn’t a juggernaut, but neither is anyone else.
