I know it’s early but I’m just starting to get major Reggie Bush vibes from Gibbs as in he’s a solid above average player in certain packages but not a star running back who will ever be the definitive go-to guy for the Lions.
It sure would be nice to have Carter next to hutch on that line right now taking some of the double teams off him while having a running back that we got in the third round or later.
As far as I know Reggie Bush never even made a Pro Bowl and didn’t come close to living up to the expectations based on his college career.
Like I said I think Gibbs is still perfectly capable of being a guy you want on your team who can be a weapon but considering who we passed up on to take him where we did I think you need to get a legitimate star at the running back position if you take one that high for it to be even close to worth it
Honestly I don’t like how we are using him. We are only using him for his unique traits. You have to dial up some inside tough tough runs. If you take a rb in the first round he has to be more than a jerrick mckinnon
No…but would have rather had Carter on this DL next to Hutch, but I dont get paid the big bucks to assess the weaknesses on this team and not make basic, common sense decisions
When Montgomery went down I thought… well now we can get Gibbs going, get him in a rhythm, etc. Instead we just subbed him in when we wanted to run a route or draw… and put in Reynolds otherwise
The reason players like that are special is because they are running backs AND receivers. If he can’t run inside… he’s just a 3rd down back or a part time receiver. If that’s the case why would you draft that in the first?
The way he ran on his few touches against KC I thought maybe he did have some tough run ability. But we didn’t even give him a shot to do that in this game
Holmes seems to have a weird draft strategy. He latches on to players that he thinks can help the team without thought into how much help and what other value is out there. A 3rd down RB can help this team, thats probably enough for Holmes.
