Goff is gaining respect around the league and unfortunately Ben Johnson gets the credit for most of his hard work. I think that narrative changes after this year.
I’ve always felt Goff was underrated and I also think Goff needs a good OL to have consistent success. But behind a good OL he’s definitely one of the best QBs in the NFL. Glad we have him.
99% of qbs need solid OL play to be truly successful. However, you are right that with Goff, historically anyway, if his OL struggles he has a more substantial drop-off from his high.
When he has blocking he’s a top 5 QB when he doesn’t the stats rank him in the bottom 5.
That’s a pretty significant drop off. I’m hoping he improves on that this year because the blocking is likely to have some struggles early on with two new starters.
I don’t think this is true, Ben and Dan helped Goff regain his confidence by believing in him. Having good play calling helps any QB but Goff is the one making the throws and reads. He reminds me of Payton Manning at the line. Ben didn’t make Goff he just help Dan restore his confidence and Goff did the rest.
I think both are true.
Your comments are spot on.
Yet many in the media give credit to Ben for Goff’s success in Detroit, which makes some sense as he was the OC during Goff’s resurgence.
True, but Goff also help make Ben, when a OC has a QB make a turnaround like Goff has and then the offense becomes one of the best in the NFL, that guys getting a new Job and a raise.
We all know this has been collaborative. Until Johnson left, we are raving how simpatico Goff and Johnson were. Add Campbell’s vision, Fralic’s coaching, and an incredible supporting cast.
We will absolutely miss Johnson. Like we will miss Ragnow and Randle El. But IMO what’s gotten built here is bigger than any of them.
Also smart qb’s can read defenses quickly and get the ball out quick which helps the oline. Nothing worse than a qb who holds the ball too long and can’t read defenses.
There’s been several threads about it on here but a quick google search and I found this article with some stats for you. There’s also been plenty of articles about it too.
But from a clean pocket, he’s been drastically worse:
Only one of them say anything about Ben fixing Goff, one talks about Goff needing everything to be good, nothing really about Ben, the last one Just talks about All the good Ben did that got him a head coach job, I think some of you just wanna hate on Ben.
Dude , anyone disagrees with you gets this crap, If im fabricating, seems your doing that yourself. I’m mean your quoting " the ringer " for God sakes. I disagree, there is a few unknowables that has tried to say that , but most don’t. There is a group out there that think Goff needs everything to be perfect but there some here also, seems your trying to lump that on with Ben made Goff stuff. So I disagree with your assessment not sure how that makes me argumentive.
There two people who talk about it in this very thread. There’s been countless threads about it in this very forum. There’s been countless statements and stories about it in the media. At this point it’s a well known narrative.
You’re not disagreeing you being argumentative just to be argumentative.
I gave you 3 examples and you won’t accept those examples. I could give you plenty more. You won’t accept those either I’m sure.
Do a google search. Heck just search the den there’s been plenty of talk about it here.
Here’s a few more for you. The hot takes are endless from fans and media alike.
