Nice start to the game
Didn’t think a sweep was possible here but it’s looking like it

Houston really playing bad baseball recently. Sloppy defense, walking everyone. Haven’t scored a run in 30 innings. Pretty crazy for that payroll.

6 runs without the benefit of a home run. That don’t happen very often for this team. For any team for that matter

Tigers Transaction today:

Urquidy on the move

Veteran right-hander Jose Urquidy, working his way back from Tommy John surgery, is moving up a couple of levels.

His next rehab start is scheduled for Wednesday with Triple-A Toledo at Rochester.

“He will increase his competition but we’ll keep the volume about the same,” Hinch said. “In A-ball, they were just swinging at everything and he was having a hard time getting his pitch count up. This will be a good test for him.”

Urquidy, who helped the Astros win the World Series in 2022, made four rehab starts at Low-A Lakeland. His rehab assignment is expected to run through this month. It remains to be seen how far the Tigers can stretch him out.

“I don’t know if we’ve determined that as much as we’re judging how he’s feeling after every outing and how he’s bouncing back and how his stuff is doing,” Hinch said.

It’s a different calculus, Hinch said, for a 30-year-old pitcher coming off Tommy John surgery.

“We’re paying attention to how much we can push him,” he said. “He’s going to pitch a little more often and hover in the two- to four-inning range. But we still need to build him up more than he has been.

“There is no definitive date when we’re saying when he’s going to be an option. We’re just going outing by outing.”
