Bears and Bengals

I love Mahomes. I compared him to Dominik Hasek earlier today. He’s really 1 of a kind. I wouldn’t show his film to any QBs that I was training.

That doesn’t really answer the question. When was Bo Nix ever considered a better QB than Caleb Williams??

After this past weekend’s preseason games, apparently.

I know right….

I personally liked Nix about as well as anyone in this draft. Which I’m not particularly high on. Although it was Penix I didn’t want going to the Vikes. I really don’t care about the consensus. You can buy the guide book if that is your interest.

Or if they took the next qb drafted that is going to light it up in washington.

I certainly don’t buy your hindsight

What hindsight? You think I care about preseason football? It means next to nothing. None of these guys have ever played a real game of football. But you’re free to search the history if you want to get embarrassed again.

@socko definitely never liked Caleb. I think he’s wrong, but he’s been consistent.

You just said Nix is the better QB. You never said that prior to the draft

I’m glad they didn’t take him.

I’ll play! I live in KC, so I see him every game. Here are my thoughts on Mahomes. Overrated. Is he a great player? Absolutely yes. Hall of Famer? Yes. Is he as good as he is given credit for? NO. You want someone else’s opinion? How about the rest of the NFL players? Even his peers rated him #4 this year. #2 at QB. For the record, I am not saying I agree with their opinions, I am saying they don’t see him as the best, or even the best QB.

The thought with Mahomes is, he is so good, you can put him out there with any trash and you will win titles. Here is a dirty little secret about Kansas City’s last Super Bowl. Mahomie, got Ma-Carried. Mahomes, was more Meh-homes. Mid-Homes. The Chiefs offense was ASS last year. Why? They have zero receivers, and their offensive line is suspect. Their only weapon, is an aging Kelce who is also starting to break down. The Chiefs offense has been in decline since they let Tyreek go. Tyreek was who freed up Kelce. That’s not opinion, it’s a fact. It’s exactly why Kansas City signed Hollywood Brown, then overdrafted Xavier Worthy. (For the record, he’s not worthy. Ask Wayne and Garth, then party on.)

If you want proof, look at Mahomes stats from last year. #6 in passing yards. #3 in attempts and completions. Finished behind Dak, Cousins, Purdy, Goff, Tua, Lamar, Daniel Jones and Derek Carr (?!!) in completion percentage. TD to INT ratio of 27/14. His 14 picks? 5th worst in the NFL. Tied with Tua and Trevor. Only Jalen Hurts, Josh Allen and Sam Howell had more. His QB rating? A not so mighty 92.6. He is in good company there, with Stafford, Herbert, Mayfied, Josh Allen, oh and Geno Smith.

Here are the numbers for the Chiefs offense last year. 2nd in passing attempts, 3rd in completions. 7th in passing yards. 11th in completion percentage. 19th in yards per attempt. Gee, that’s strange… How is the supposed greatest deep thrower in history 19th in yards per attempt… It’s more like Mahomes was checking it down quite a bit and still couldn’t do decent in completion percentage. Well, none of that matters, it’s all about scoring! Let’s see those numbers! 17th, in total touchdowns.

You know one of the traits they list for elite QB’s, is they raise the talent of those around them. They make guys better. Brady did it, no one can name their WR’s. Manning did it. That was why the Chiefs traded for Kadarius Toney, Mahomes was gonna make him better than he was in NY. Yeah, that one worked out well. Hey, they got Marquez Valdez-Scantling! Oh, that didn’t work either. Well who was their top non-Kelce receiver? Let me see scroll-scroll-scroll Oh, it was that speedster Rashee Rice.

Everyone blamed the Chiefs problems on their wide recievers last year. Guess what? Their QB was also a part of that problem. I do love the Chiefs philosophy though. Sign guys who can’t catch (Toney, MVS). They didn’t work? Replace them with Hollywood Brown and Xavier Worthy. Two guys who had speed for days, oh, and cannot catch. Yep, this is gonna work!

If you want to see where the real strength of the Chiefs offense is, it’s their defense. They are absolutely legit. My report for the Chiefs this year is their offensive line I think is a bit weaker than last year, their WR’s are still terrible, and I predict even more whining and bitching from Mahomes. Last year, especially after the Buffalo game, people are starting to see the real Mahomes. He is whiny, entitled, and his years of the league sucking him off are going to his head. Mahomes summed all of this up on the infamous Toney offsides play. Mahomes never said it was Toney’s fault for lining up offsides. Mahomes never said the referees made the right call. What Mahomes did say was “How can you make that call, at that time?” Meaning, the rules shouldn’t apply to the Chiefs. This is why people are souring on him, and they are right to do so.

My opinion is, the Lions absolutely did choke in the NFC Championship game. I think it was a learning experience. I truly think they lost focus, and started thinking “We are 30 minutes from the Super Bowl.” They then paid the price, because they don’t give you trophies for halftime leads. I think it was the coaches, I think it was the players, it was a total team choke. We will see if they learned from it. A lot of championship teams first have the moments of failure. How you respond from that is the key. That all being said, I truly believe that had the Lions not choked the NFCCG away, they would’ve beat the Chiefs in the Super Bowl and we would’ve been champions. I think SF still wins if Greenlaw doesn’t blow his achilles midgame.

We will find out what happens in just a few short weeks. I’m ready.

Actually that’s not entirely true. Tye trek left after 2021 season. The Chiefs led the NFL in points for with 496 points compared to 480 in 2021, Tyreek’s last year. Mahomes, in 2022 threw for more yards, more TDs and less INTs than in 2021, Tyreek’s last year. The running game was about the same but the Chiefs did rush for more yards in 2022 than they did in 2021.

He’s taking what the defense is giving him.

Despite his numbers last year, he led his team to victories against Miami in frigid weather, at Buffalo and Baltimore, before beating the Niners in the Super Bowl with a starting WR corps of rookie Rashee Rice, bust Skyy Moore, waiver wire pickup Mecole Hardman. Could you imagine how this place would be reacting if we rolled out a unit like that?

Yeah I have to agree. And I think it should also be mentioned that a QB like Mahomes should not be disrespected because of his statistics aren’t at the very top of the NFL. I was a kid in the 80s but I don’t think Joe Montana ever led the league in passing yards or TDs. But Montana was the guy you want under center in a big game. That is what Mahomes is today IMO!

The NFL Top 100 is an annual television series counting down the top one hundred players in the National Football League (NFL), as chosen by fellow NFL players. The rankings are based on an off-season poll organized by the NFL, where players vote on their peers based on their performance for the recent NFL season. Only players that are not retired in the next season are eligible for consideration.

The bolded part is the important part. This year’s list was based on the 2023 season. Anyone who doesn’t think Mahomes is the best QB in the league, well they’re entitled to their opinion. Regardless of how bad it is. He still walked away with the trophy.
