The Pats is a good job… Cheap QB, high draft pick, good owner, tons of cap space, bad division… They could turn it around fast.

They gave up on the last coach they hired after one season.

This is why I think they are going with Vrabel.

The real question is; does Vrabel go with them.

They have a ton of cap space. But I think that that position goes to Vrable.

I love Ben Johnson the OC, I really don’t know how he will do as a head coach.
Personally, with no knowledge other than listening to both in numourous interviews and reading on them, AG just seems more prepared to be a head coach.

I go back to a segment on Sirius some time back where they talked about how many young coaches there are and many fail because they just aren’t ready. They turn being the hot coordinator into a head coach role, which they weren’t saying don’t do, but there is so sooooo much more that goes into being a head coach than a coordinator.

So there are the CEO Head coaches like MCDC and there are the OC or DC HCs (Andy Reid for example or KOC from yesterday).

It seems Ben would be a play caller Head Coach. And I think if he can snag an experienced DC and the right front office he could get things cooking.

I would agree that Vrabel to me seems like a perfect fit for NE. And we do not know the behind the scenes stuff with Mayo.

But if I was Ben I would avoid Chi like the plague. They are likely headed towards an ownership change and chaos overall. So not a great place to start ones career.

How about this one. Andy Reid retires and KC hires Ben as their new HC and he retains most of the staff…that is my crazy prediction of the year. Ben would slide right in like a glove there.

I also think this, the above, is another great example of Dan’s leadership from the coaching development angle.
Numerous articles on how Dan has the coordinators fill other roles at times, during the season, to help them overcome the above challenges.

He also has the coordinators do the same for their asst coaches.

Depends on what they prioritize. If developing Maye is the priority, Ben’s chances skyrocket.

Not sure where to put this, there doesn’t seem to be one overall coaching thread. But…

The Bears are a complete cluster f**k of an organization.

I thought this was the last year of McCarthy’s contract? If so why do the Bears have to request permission? Unless McCarthys contract runs until like the end of Feb?

Looked it up, it expires Jan 14th
So why not just wait until it expires then interview him?

To get a head start on the process. It’s likely that Jerrah has already made a decision. What’s going to change between now and the 14th after 5 years in the building? Could they be negotiating over price?
