Ben Johnson/Bears leading the NFC

Spoken in a thread not about the Lions….

Lions offense took a huge step back this year because the middle of our O-line. Chicago already had a decent Defense, first thing Ben does is address the interior of the O-line. This isn’t a coincidence people.

I thought they were gonna implode after the 50 burger we gave them. They’ve been 9-1 since then. Pretty impressive.

Welp, at least we have confirmation where the “magic” came from.

The “magic” = discipline and intense preparation

The Bears look prepared and well-practiced. The Lions look less so every week.

Tragic…

True! I really don’t give a damn what the other teams are doing. We need to fix our own problems.

To your point… the Bears have played only 3 teams this season that currently have winning records.

Philly 8-4
Lions 7-5
Dallas 6-5-1

I guess we’ll see how they do with 4 games against teams that have winning records for the remainder of the season.

Yeah, I sais at the start of the year, that they would get a one year boost from Ben. I think things return to normal next year.

so we have the 3rd best GM in the division. Great.

I’m curious: How many people think Dennis Allen is a better DC than either Sheppard or Glenn?

How many people think the Bears have better defensive talent than the Lions?

Honest question.

I think Dennis Allen will end up being a better hire than either of our two guys. When DC was first hired, he wanted buy in and a culture fit. DC was good for that and so was Shep. But if you want an Xs and Os guy who can disguise coverages to match up in the playoffs, Allen fits the bill.

I don’t know DVOA stats because they are under a paywall this year, but judging from traditional stats, the Lions defense is significantly better. The Lions offensive is very good. But so is the Bears, although slightly behind in stats. But the Bears won loss is signficantly better and beating the Eagles on the road was a BIG win for them.

Personally, I think the Vikings loss likely sunk the Lions. They couldn’t afford to lose a home game where they were surely the more talented team. We’ll see on the rematch, but it just looked to me that DET wasn’t ready to play that game. In the big scheme of things, the Lions are right there with some of the best teams statistically. But when you watch you can tell they aren’t quite there. We could take two losses on the coming schedule maybe with a win v the Vikes. Now that we lost, I think we can afford one loss max. But it ain’t over until the fat lady sings.

I don’t really believe that. I just think he needs to change his priorities a little bit. This year should be a huge wake-up call.
