Bench Terrion?

As I said, fair or not, TA is on a different curve. Any CB that a team expended capital to trade up into the 1st rd and is only CB2 in the 3rd year would be considered a disappointment (unless there is an all pro on the other side).

Reed was brought in to transition TA to CB1. Reed is playing well but he has never been a true CB1 and will be 30 next year.

I hope Reed plays like a CB1 this season and in to next season, but counting on an undersized 30 year old to be your CB1 is asking a lot.

TA was drafted to be That Dude. Especially by year #3.

…to you…for you. Who knows what handsome Brad is thinking?
I think TA will end up being amazing. This conversation feels much like the Jamo conversation in his second year, to me.

Brad has earned my trust (though he had it after his very first draft)

I’ve never said I didn’t think TA would be amazing.

I was excited about the pick (although I wanted Q. Mitchell and was hoping he would still be there).

I think TA will be the CB1 next year. I think the staff thought he had a chance to be CB1 this year, and still may.

That being said, most everyone will be disappointed (Brad included) if he is just an average CB2.

TA didn’t choose where he was drafted, for one.

CB’s typically take 3 years to mature at the NFL level. Very few (even first rounders) enter the league and light it up.

That’s just reality.

Another reality, he’s ahead of the curve. Most CB’s don’t start until year 2.

My wife used to be this, now she’s a mid sized 55 YO. She’s a CB12 these days.

Really? I think that’s your personal standard… I’d agree if he was top 10. But at 22? A starter is completely acceptable, especially at CB. Kaiir Elam? Emmanuel Forbes? Caleb Farley? Eric Stokes? Deonte Banks? All taken in the later part of the 1st round… None of them play the run like Terrion either… He’s a superior player to all of them. Arnold was getting super high praise in camp too before the injury… ARSB even picked him as the breakout player for this year. But, he doesn’t have to be a lights out CB1 like you’re suggesting… In fact, I’m not sure where you saw Holmes say he needs to be a ā€œlock down CB1ā€ :man_shrugging: I never heard him say that.

Also, acting like Reed is old is a bit misleading, he’s still 28 and on a 3 year deal… He’ll be on the last year of his deal at 30 and turn 31 halfway through the season.

If anything, Rakestraw should be the player criticized… He’s contributed nothing as a 2nd rounder.

Only Elam and Banks are comparable examples of players that teams expended capital to trade up and select in the 1st rd.

These examples make my point.

Deonte Banks is the Giants CB1.

Kaiir Elam was a disappointment. He was traded for 7th round pick and a pick swap.

I don’t know why you are comparing TA to these guys. Other than Banks, they are all disappointments. I like TA and think he will be the Lions CB1 next year.

But if TA turns out like these CB’s you list, he will be a disappointment, just like them.

Reed will be 29 in about 6 weeks and 30 next season as I stated. He is undersized and 30 year old cb’s are on the downside of their careers.

Please find one word where I criticized TA.

I agreed with your original post.

TA cost a 1st and a 3rd.

I want him to be the teams best CB by year #3.
If not he will generally be viewed as a disappointment. There are already DeJean comparisons now and the title of this thread is ā€œBench Terrionā€.

They’re all comparable bc they were all drafted in the same spot of the draft… And Deonte Banks has just as bad of a pff grade as Arnold :joy: and doesn’t play the run. Idk why you think he has to be a lock down corner, it’s a narrative you want to believe for no reason… Such is America in 2025
