Big Safety added to the Lions Senior Bowl Squad

Monster for a safety. Supposed to run a 4.5.

Georgia Tech senior DB Tariq Carpenter accepted an invite to the Senior Bowl. Carpenter 6’4/225) is a late add to the roster and will be coached by the Lions staff in Mobile next week. A multi-year starter at safety for the Yellow Jackets, Carpenter was a stalwart player, amassing 223 tackles, 17 passes defended, four interceptions, and three forced fumbles in his career.

This was my first thought too. Play 4-2-5 on 3rd and longs with 3 CB, 1 deep safety and cover backer. Kind if what we wanted Killerbrew to turn into.

Can key on the RB or take the TE or take middle zone and eff up crossers

Looks like a perfect box safety to me.

I have to wonder if this is someone the Lions requested they add.

Supposedly there was a player traded between teams too.

I know nothing about him but I’d prefer both of our safeties to both be rangy and proficient at manning up when needed. Run stopping is nice but it’s not the priority for me given the style of offenses that most teams now play. And maybe he can but that’s a big safety so I’m skeptical.
