Bright Spots From 2019?

Bevell also cost us 2 games with really stupid decisions. Just saying. He can call a great game at times, but when you shit the bed in crunch time, it all can be wasted in the blink of an eye.

Linehan is perfect for young QBs. I would argue there is noone I would rather have. But after a few years teams catch up to what he is doing and he is not the guy to take a young QB to the next level.

Like many have mention despite how the season record went there were some nice bright spots.

Bevell - Finally get an OC that knows how to set up his plays and use his personnel.
Golliday - Took that step to be considered a true WR #1/
RBs - I list the group because each of them showed something good at one point or another during the season. It will be interesting to see where the Lions go from here.
Rookies - Though not every rookie the Lions had looked good, many of them did not look out of place, Tavalli, Harris, Amani, Blough, & Hock. It will be fun watching them develop over the years.
Dahl - Speaking of develop, this was the biggest surprise to me this season. He actually looked like a starting NFL OG. I, like many others i am sure, was worried when he got the starting LG spot and I wondered what the Lions were going to do to cover his backup ability. Instead he showed the while he is not a top OG, he is at least a little above average.

Finally, I loved how the team stayed together and fought in every game. That is something that many of us in the past wish the team had done. While there were a few times the an individual might have given up on a play, it was never as consistent or obvious as we have seen in the past.

IMO with a few key players on the Defense and continued development from some of the young players on both sides of the ball I can envision the Lions having a big bounce back next season.

Yes! I’m in the same boat! Unapologetically own that shit! I don’t think we’re that far off.

Looks like we’re going to have to replace Snacks and Slay, on top of this year’s obvious holes.
Then, we will probably have to overspend by tagging key players like Glasgow.
I hope I’m wrong, but, I can’t imagine a way to fill all the holes on D in one off season.

This is becoming a real possibility, and as a fan, you should wonder, who the heck want’s to play for this staff and under this system? Are we really going to lure some top notch free agents, when guys who are supposed to be your leaders like Snacks, Slay, Diggs, Flowers all regressed under it? When guys like Diggs and Slay are verbally criticizing the scheme and a guy like Snacks is contemplating just throwing away millions of bucks instead of playing here anymore?

I mean, I’m sure someone will take our money, but top players with a desire to win meaningful games are probably going to make this their last resort. This is another reason that retaining the cancer of Quinntricia could actually hurt us much longer than 1 or 2 years.

The bright spots for me? Well, early on I quit watching them and my liver got a major rest. I saved money by not going to any road games and now have booked a trip to Argentina with the money and air miles I saved. I did catch parts of some games like Thanksgiving, but in general not so much. They got to take a look at quite a few players that had they been healthy would have never happened. They got the #3 pick in the draft. That pretty much covers it for me.

Bright spots?

We have an early draft pick and enough cap space to patch the sinking ship.

Or you can say we’re a year away from having someone who knows what to do with those picks and cap space?

Hey, do you know if Snacks retires vs let go if we save any money? Deadstroke used to have all that info, not sure that he posts here.

Well if we cut him or he retires we save 6.75mil.

750K are in roster and work out bonuses. So it really comes down to when we cut him. I’d assume we would do so prior to FA but we could do it post June 1st. Which would allow us to spread his 2.5 mil in guarantees over 2 years. But we would owe him the 750k so it’s highly likely he’s cut prior to free agency.

I’m expecting us to overhaul our DT rotation. Snacks could be back but I’d assume it would be in a reduced role.

Once he said he’s contemplating retirement I think that the cat is out of the bag. If he isn’t healthy by spring then you need to move on. I would look very hard at Wagner too.

Truth is that it’s very common for 30+ year old DT’s to decline due to injury. So most teams move on and that’s why the NYG traded him.

The Lions should cut their loses and get younger at DT. That’s why I’m expecting them to overhaul the DT unit.

To me I think Jeff Driskel projects as a better QB than Blough.Blough had one good game, not very accurate, to me not and NFL qb,free agent qb is the way to go or draft if there is a promising rookie ou there

This upcoming year could very well be different Because unless a new CBA is agreed to prior to the beginning of the new business year beginning in March then there will be no such thing as post June 1st Cuts rules, etc… in 2020.

Blough needs to work on his footwork and he will a fine QB. Doesn’t have the rocket arm of Stafford, or the wheels of Driskel, but, he has all the tools and a very high football IQ.
Tell you a secret. Blough didn’t cost us any of those games.
Coaching and Defense handed us 12 losses and a tie. Offense gave us 3 wins.

Passer rating of 64,4 tds 6 ints.completes 54% of passes,I see nothing there that tells me he even belongs in the NFL.
