Might be time for a new coach then? I like Gundy, but maybe he isn’t leaning into it?
Program should be able to tap into some oil money right, or maybe Ok State is too far removed from that 20-30 range, you know a lot more then I would about Ok State
We had oil tycoon money from like 2000-2017 or so, but you couldn’t pay players back then. But then he died and we don’t have that guy anymore (Texas Tech does).
I agree Gundy’s traditionalism is biting us in his ass, but it’s really just a slow death for all of the Big 12 and ACC right now. Maybe a few teams like Clemson or Kansas will get cherry picked for the Big SEC, but it won’t be an ag school from a town of 20,000 an hour away from a team they already have.
Keep hearing some love for Duke’s RT Brian Parker. I think he’s short-armed so he’ll have to shift inside to guard, but despite being listed at 6’5, 300, you never see him lose to power. And he’s a technician and a good athlete too. Need to watch more of him, but definitely on my list. Excited to see him today.
went back to college even though he was likely a day 2 pick in the draft. I know Penn state hasnt really played against “Real” teams yet, but hes not getting much use so far.
Eh, going exactly how I thought it would go. The writing’s been on the wall for a few years now, we’re just spiraling down quicker than the other Big 12/ACC teams, but most of them will follow us down soon enough. Oh maybe a couple are lucky enough to get “saved” by the Big SEC, but it was never gonna be an ag school from a small town an hour away from one of their juggernauts.
So yeah, maybe it’s time for Gundy to go, but I don’t think it will matter one way or the other. The Mountain Westification has begun.
Maybe not, but he’s easily been the greatest coach we’ve ever had, and last year was his first ever losing season in 20 years. We were in the Big 12 title game the year before. I was OK with giving him another year.
But he has not adapted well to the era of NIL and the transfer portal, that’s for sure. But it’s hard for me to blame him. I haven’t either.
Do we really need a development QB that is similar to Goff. I mean ideally if it goes well he challenges Goff for the starting job or outright takes it from him at some point. I don’t think it’s all that important that he’s similar to Goff. That’s why I was good with Hooker. He’s nothing like Goff but it didn’t matter. But he doesn’t seem very special to me so waiting longer for him to develop didn’t make a lot of sense either.
If we don’t make some noise here in the next couple of years in the playoffs. I’m not sure I want to be tied to a mid 30s Goff. He needs to win a trophy for us.
