College Football Playoffs First Round

Imo, if the 1sd rd of playoff games gives the top 4 higher ranked of the 8 1st rd teams a homefield advantage, then they should have to take the same medicine and go to their higher ranked oposition’s home field in the 2nd rd. The 2nd rd neutral site is kinda b.s…would be much more entertaining to have the 1st two rds all at team’s homefields…then have the semi-final and final at neutral sites.

I would also add that they need to add a northern site to the rotation for the Big Ten fans for the quarterfinals. I know they are trying to use the traditional bowl sites, but you can’t expect fans to shell out multiple times with flights and hotels. The semis were bad enough. Now we have quarterfinals. Its quite a built in advantage for the SEC to play these games in Atlanta, Miami, Louisana, Dallas and California (although I guess technically that is big ten country now?)

Would be pretty funny to see Texas and Georgia kicked out in round 2. I’m rooting for that. Realistic chance too.

Arizona St. and Boise St. getting first round byes is a joke. You want ot reward conference champs, but c’mon.

This is why you root Big Ten during bowls/playoffs. Go Alabama.

Yep. TN doesn’t have Graham and Grant. Then playing a Don Brown scheme. just stupid. Congrats on the win.

Never. LOL
I root for teams not conferences.

I doubt AL coach is as arrogant as R Day.
Plus no Graham so AL should win this one.

I’ll be rooting for ralph ralph belch M-m-m the team up north. I do believe in rooting conferences. But to each their own, and I know you have a second fav in the SEC and live in GA so that makes it tough.

The thing that kills me about all this is guys like Herby saying the lunatic fringe has grown at OSU. No dude, the fans are perfectly justified in complaining about Day not having his team ready for Michigan. And having a terrible game plan. That is a legit gripe. If they had come out against Michigan like they did Tenn maybe we wouldn’t be having this convo.

The other weird part of this is the playoffs in some way make the Michigan/OSU much less important. Yeah, it sucks that we lost to ya’ll again but its like the Lions losing to Tampa earlier now (sorta of, lol). We still go on. And I would guess that when Michigan gets back on track we’ll be seeing rematches just like we’re seeing with OSU vs Oregon. Almost happened a few years ago in the Semis.

You would be very surprised at some of the things Nick Sheridan has done this season.

Mason Graham not playing obviously changes the entire game, but I still think Wink might cause us some problems. Obviously, if you can contain Milroe as a runner (he is playing), then you pretty much have us beat. He can’t drop back and pass effectively against a good defensive scheme.

Ryan Williams winning one on one has really been the only passing game we’ve had all year. The other receivers really just weren’t that good, and Milroe couldn’t read the defense anyway.

I have taken a good amount of issue with how Chris Kapilovic (the OL coach) has coached his guys. Kadyn Proctor should really be better than he is, and Tyler Booker, while still really good, had also underperformed at times this season. Bralisford is just small and overrated, I don’t care what anyone says. I guess Roberts is ok at RG, but we’ve had a revolving door at RT this season with both Elijah Pritchett and Wilkin Formby getting PT.

The DC Kane Wommack has also not been my favorite. That unit is just inconsistent, and without star LB Deonte Lawson who we lost to injury against Oklahoma, they’re just a totally different unit.

Disagree, but would like to hear further your explanation for typing this

Because losing “the Game” no longer keeps you out of winning a national championship. It has a bearing on a Big Ten championship, but as an example how many people remember Michigan mens basketball finishing 4th in the Big Ten in 1989?

If Ohio State goes on to win a Natty, the Michigan game will be a black mark, but believe me there will be smiles in Columbus. The narrative will be Ohio State rebounded and overcame adversity etc etc.

Really, it sort of puts it like Michigan State vs Michigan where you can still lose the game and win the Big Ten. It won’t always be the case, there will be years where “The Game” will have enormous playoff implications and one team might be left out. But not this year.

I don’t think so but that is based on just the rivalry itself and nothing more.

I get that going to 12 teams means you can lose the game and still get in easier now than before. From that perspective sure, but this game will always be the one you want to win more than anything.

I do understand your point and all UM fans have to do is look at losing to MSU, beating OSU, winning the B1G and making the playoffs.

Its comforting to know there are other dumb coaches out there.

Michigan won’t have Mason Graham, Will Johnson, or Colston Loveland playing. That’s like every top end player we have except Grant. Should be a W for Bama.
