Commanders release C Biadasz

3 for 30M seems very reasonable for a starting center. I guess he wasn’t what we are looking for?

Wonder why the commanders cut him?

Yeah, I think he’d be okay but isn’t elite in the things the Lions tend to value at the position.

IMO he’s below average overall, but not a complete travesty (which is what LAC was dealing with last year). Some teams believe all you really need is for a guy to hold up in there and allow you to run your stuff, and there’s some validity to that. But for schemes like ours and Ben’s, we need more from the center.

This. Many schemes just need Ana serviceable Center. Our scheme values and requires a Center that is both strong and intelligent with the trade off being that it requires a little less emphasis on quality at the Guard than some…I think actually specifically either RG or LG with one still requiring decent skill (I forget which but Anthony that maybe the LG position is our “just be good enough” role).

And don’t ask me to explain it because I don’t know the weeds of it enough to do it. I just recall reading a lengthy article a couple years back when we re-signed Ragnow to all that $.

A very good center definitely makes mediocre guards look better. The issue last year was GG struggled and so did Mahogs. 2 guys side by side giving up a ton of interior pressure. Really gotta upgrade the interior and I think we will

Frank’s ability at the 2nd level is what really set him apart here (it was also the strength of Dalman’s game and I’m sure why they signed him), and we missed that utterly with GG. I’m sure one of the reasons we chose Tate as his successor was due to HIS skill at the 2nd level as well, though I think they thought they had a year to blood him first. Frank’s retirement caught them with their pants down.

We tend to need an LG to just hold up, yes, but that can rotate by play if necessary. We just tended to lean more heavily on the right side of our line because Penei was over there. If he flipped to the left, that might change. Plus when we designed the offense Jonah was LG and he was our worst lineman.

our GM “Injured come on down!”

Great breakdown.

He’s signing with the chargers

We haven’t even been rumored for any of the Center transactions despite a gaping hole there.

Means we got our guy. Unless it’s via trade we should know very soon. I fully expect the Center solution in the first wave. Even if i: a lower tier guy that we then double dip come draft time (or have faith in Seth).

Risdon said we are interested in Cade Maye.

It’s a logical fit.

Agreed

Would be very happy with mays

will be 27 in April

3 or 4 year deal would solidify him as our Starting C for a while.

Does mean LT we need to hit

I think Frazier will be our LG entering this year, would not be shocked if we let him and Mahogs fight for it

Or RT.

But do you go for an upper tier FA at OT as well as Center? I imagine we go cheaper but playable vet plus a draft pick.

That makes the most sense to me.

Wills is weird for that role. Or is he a lottery ticket and the we’ll add one more vet? While he did look like a star as a rookie that is nearly six years ago and his play had slumped before the knee troubles.

I honestly think people are overreacting a lot to the news that he visited. It was just a fact-finding mission, and if he signed there’s no way he’d be someone we considered the solution. More like a Jamarco Jones replacement. I am encouraged that the Pats also brought him in after Vrabel spent a year with him in Cleveland, so he clearly knows the person and maybe there’s more to it (There are a couple of Pats fans saying depression played a role), but no matter who brings him in, it won’t be as a starter. It’ll be as a punt.

I would very much like the move as OT4 with upside. Beyond that the risk is too extreme.
