Depending on the contract he may not need to stay healthy. If he has per game roster bonuses, that will effect the compensatory formula. If he doesn’t, he will probably qualify (depending on if to $4M is his base contract or if it’s the dreaded “up to”).
Without seeing the contract details, my guess is his contract will qualify.
Nick’s post above made it sound like in the end we were getting a 7th. I suppose I misinterpreted and he had not yet got the offset part of the process.
Right now we have Carlton Davis ($18M) being canceled out by signing DJ Reed ($18M). So at this moment, we have a 7th rounder for Iffy ($4M), but that will change as we lose some and sign some.
I was misremembering the rules and thinking you could use a lower pick to cancel out an outgoing free agent. I guess that’s only if you don’t have a match for the round of the departing free agent as we do with Reed and Davis.
I believe they can also combine picks into a higher pick to limit the total number of picks. Like take the two 6th rounders and convert it to one 5th rounder.
Looks like we get no credit for losing Iffy - his 3.05MM salary doesn’t qualify as compensatory. Meanwhile, we owe a 7th rounder for Roy Lopez. So, we’re -1 picks…Going the wrong way!
