QThis is a very deep llist of OC candidates to choose from this off season…so far

If we were to go strictly outside hire my top 3 choices are Mike Kafka, Davis Webb, or Zac Robinson. I really liked what Kafka did against us. It’d be rough to steal Payton’s PGC 2 years in a row.

But I can also see some other possibilities like hiring JT Barrett or David Blough as Pass game coordinators and promoting Scottie Montgomery or Hank fraley. .

Is that what Dan meant when he said “getting back to 2023” homegrowing the guys and breeding competition again?

I also like the idea of stefanski coming for one year to wait for the right opportunity and grooming a guy like Barret or Blough under him.

The more I think about it, the more Scottie Montgomery makes sense.

I was thinking about him. But was curious. Why didn’t Campbell give him play calling duties at any point this year to see what he had?

It’s not comprehensive without Dabol. He and Dan are good friends.

Dan didn’t give Ben playcalling duties when he demoted Anthony Lynn.

My thoughts from that list are:
Scottie Montgomery>Randle El

Scottie Montgomery>Hank Fraley

NYG castoffs Kafka and Daboll are options

Blough is an interesting option

Not terribly interested in poaching the Rams

NO Broncos coaches, thank you.

Stefanski will be a HC somewhere this year.

Just so hard to know how much Scottie is involved in game planning. Scottie has coached RB’s and WR’s in the nfl. And was an offensive coordinator and head coach in college for several years. So he does have a well rounded knowledge of different positions. Can he call plays well at the nfl level? Hard to say.

Brunell is another guy that has been here 5 years now and has Goff playing great but his name is never mentioned for promotions.

Daboll is on the list in the article I linked

Touche but they did promote him and announce his additional involvement. But who knows.

Good point about brunell. His name is hardly ever brought up. And you would think based on how successful the offense has been that he would be mentioned more. Very curious

If so then go hire Hines Ward to be WR coach.

Davis Webb?

Ronald Curry?

I believe Campbell understood that there were serious issues with the Oline and the effect it was having on the offense sputering. I think he took the reigns to shoulder the responsibility if things didn’t go well for the team the rest of the season.

He protected Montgomery from criticism and blame IMHO. If he hires him it will give him a clean slate to start from.

I’m liking the Montgomery/Blough/ Fraley combo.

Wow that’s a really interesting take. I can totally see that.

I also can get on board with this. It would be a perfect set up for Montgomery to get his first head coaching job too. And if Dan Campbell has to take over play calling it wouldn’t change much. But it really keeps the band together and cohesive with familiar and unified voices.

A veteran OC will want to bring in his guys

I have this OC related theory. Not sure I even believe it but it’s interesting to think about. When Tyler Roehl was speaking about leaving for ISU he was clear that he wanted to call plays. I wonder if he went to Dan and was like, “Coach, I can do this. I’m really good at this.” And Dan told him thanks but no thanks. :man_shrugging:

Please not Scottie Montgomery. He was a disaster as HC at East Carolina. Granted, that was several years ago and I’m quite certain he’s grown and matured as a coach but he would be a hard pass for me as OC.

Would Tom Moore be interested in a reunion lol. In all seriousness that guy was ahead of his time when he was with us. Very nice career he had.

I thought the same thing and thought it was interesting when he said it. Almost like he made a point to.

I’ve wondered this to myself as well.
