Could Lions trade entire draft board for Maxx Crosby?

Was talking with my brother the other night, and this was his suggestion: push all the chips in: the Raiders are resetting, so it’s unlikely they say no.

It’s as equally likely Brad laughs and says “hell no” but it’s the offseason so let’s pontificate.

Our picks are
1-28
2-60
3-101
4-132
6-198
7-227
7-230
7-246

Half of our board is in the throes of the bottom of the draft.

Our first three are late in each round.

And we’re likely to have multiple comp picks in 2026.

While it’s not in Brad’s wheelhouse to do something like this, I could be convinced it’s worthwhile.

Adding Crosby across from Hutch immediately relieves pressure on a young secondary, and likely alleviates the need to resign Davis.

It immediately makes Detroit among the most absurdly feared defenses in the league.

I also trust Brad and Dan to find low risk, high reward UDFAs.

I also wonder of the cap implications of not having a 2025 draft class and being able to extend existing players.

I don’t see Brad pulling a Ditka.

It isn’t a Ditka. That was for a top, unproven pick.

This is for a proven veteran.

I meant the trade the whole draft aspect

Totally get that, but what made that suspect is he gave up a far better draft board in terms of value for the 5th overall pick.

Just realized he also traded the Saints first pick the following year. Sheeeeesh.

Is Crosby even healthy? Had surgery in back to back offseasons. Huge contract, tons of beans required and health concerns. Very unlikely we trade for him IMO

What did your brother propose? He certainly didn’t mean every pick did he? I just can’t see it happening.

We are coming up on several young guys that will need to get paid. We won’t be able to pay everybody as it is and you have to have talent in the pipeline to replace guys that go elsewhere. That’s not even getting into the discussion on what happens if Crosby/Hutch get hurt?

I’m all for Crosby, but not at the expense of an entire draft board.

He viewed our draft board as weak (and I’m guessing was unaware we had the 3rd for Glenn, though I doubt that would’ve swayed him).

But yeah, the entire board.

Like I said, I could be convinced. I suspect if it’s not the entire board, it’d have to be something near it.

And to add an element to drive everyone crazy: this worked for the Rams.

Ahhhh, I don’t know. Yes, it worked for the Rams for 1 year. And they still had to be incredibly lucky to win the SB that year. Now that they’re getting their draft picks back again, they’re stockpiling young talent which is fueling their resurgence.

What I don’t know is how the Lions brass feels about this year’s draft class. If they think it’s deep, then no way they do it. But if it’s a crap class for depth, sure, do it. But then again, if they view it as crap depth wise, you think the Raiders would see it differently?

Personally, I think it’s a terrible idea. You don’t take the paint brushes away from an artist.

This program works because of draft and develop.

I would much rather spend 2025 and 2026 1sts than all of 25, if we are gonna speculate on never gonna happen stuff

Might be the worse idea I’ve heard, is what I would tell your friend.

Not a chance.

With Brad drafting, that’s likely to yield five long term contributors on cheap deals.

If our recent history has shown us anything, you need numbers for a 17 game season. Not one guy coming off serious injury, no matter how good he is.

Keep our third and fourth and I’d do it.
Keep our third and I’d think about it.

I’d give up our first and second round picks.

Or this year’s first, next year’s second, and one of next year’s thirds.

And honestly, I think the Raiders do it.

Yeah, I run to the podium for one of those deals. Wait… ah, you know what I mean.

Trading picks over 2 years makes sense for both parties IMO

And like you said we could recoup much of that with comp picks in 2026 if we go that route.

2025- 1st and 6th and player(s)
2026- 1st and 3rd and 5th

Players could be

Kayode Awosika LG
Josh Paschal DE
Sign/trade Muhammad DE

We would still have
2,3,4 , 7,7 in 2025

2,3,4, 7,7 in 2026 + comp picks for Free Agents lost

Last year I may have considered this. After all the injuries, even as fluky as they were, showed how badly we still need depth across the entire roster. I’d rather keep the picks and improve the entire roster. Even if Crosby is that good.
