I get the business side of this and cannot help but respect it. Our franchise is reaching/has reached the place where you can’t keep everyone.
But I believe that he will be missed. He was the perfect counter balance to Gibbs. Gibbs ascending, DMo declining (no offense or shade implied; Father Time wins vs RBs). But their styles were complimentary. Their uses were complimentary. DMo loves Detroit and Michigan loves him right back.
On a personal note, my wife is a Bears fan. She is still bitter about the Bears losing him to us. Now there is one less thing to give her shit about. We better sweep the Bears just to keep her contemplating life decisions (as if I am not enough for that.)

I really think we’re going to regret letting him go. Gibbs is great but that combo was lethal. Not dmos fault he wasnt used correctly or at the right time.

It still hurts. Me, and a few other people complained during last season how they didn’t use him enough, and how they used Gibbs in situations when they should have used him.
They want Jahmyr full time. DMo doesn’t want a reduced role. So he was traded. It’s a simple as that. People need to stop with the he wanted to be traded blaming him BS. This interview confirms it. I don’t blame DMo either. He hasn’t shown any signs of regression. And it messes with your money. He already re-worked his deal with Houston. If he plays well for them, he might get paid again. If he stayed in Detroit, with limited carries, and Brad cuts him, then it’s possible he might have hard time find another team and he’d have to settle for little money. And Brad has shown to be ruthless the way he let Decker, GG, Leaf, and AA go.
I understand why they want to give Jahmyr the ball full time. The guy is special. He’s generational. He’s still behind Bijan, CMAC, Cook, and Taylor, but he can be the best. I worry that he can’t do it full time, but if he can, and Pacheco can stay healthy and help him out, then I think he either gets 2,000 yards rushing or he gets 1,000+1,0000(which is what I prefer).
I like Sonic and Knuckles much better. I think that was the way. I worry losing DMo will hurt, but it is what it is.
I’ll be cheering him on!

Agree with almost all of this. The bottom line though, is that he only had $600k in guarantees left on his contract, despite an above market value salary for an RB2 who would carry 30% or 40% of the load. He said in that interview he was fine with his role. But the reality is that he needed to have his deal redone. No way a RB of his caliber goes into training camp with a half million guaranteed. Brad did the math and said he wasn’t going to do it, and he got value back in the trade. D Mo got his guaranteed money in Houston, and no doubt that was part of the deal. That’s all there is to it, and why D Mo has no hard feelings.

For normal people 30 isn’t old. For a running back with years of getting hit over and over it is. The body just doesn’t keep bouncing back after all that abuse.
I hate we lost him but I understand it.

People need to wait until someone regresses before they say they regressed. Plenty of RB’s have played well in their late 20’s and early 30’s.
Tell Vinnie Testaverdi that 30 is old.
well , IMO-D is one of thee most fierce RB’s in the league , he can be quite elusive-yet his style is running through or over defenders and he thrives doing that because that is the kind of style of running he wanted for himself. He is young, strong, durable, skilled, and can create lanes-that was what made him such a perfect RB to add to Gibbs, together they were a force ! yet and still each man can do what they do quite well-the League isn’t very concerned about David Montgomery’s age “right now” or NFL fans would be hearing as much now.
Not all 30’s are created equal.
I would tell you that D Mo still has some tread on the tire because of the way he has been handled through his career.
Derrick Henry is an alien so the rules have not applied, but I believe you could see some decline last year.
Many RBs don’t see 30 in the NFL. The cliff at 30 isn’t a fact, but it stands the test of time anecdotally. There are exceptions, but it is more true than it is false.
So appreciate those exceptional RBs that play into their 30s and remain productive.

If a 30-year-old RB can play until he’s say 33-35, I am all for that, I’m 23 years older than that. but twist my arm to go back in time and be in my early 20’s to 30 again, before our world leaders went to shit.
They’ve always been that way, you just couldn’t see it back then being all young and naive and shit
