Back in the day you were taught to wrap up the legs. Part of me still thinks that might be the best option. But today these guys are so strong that perhaps just launching your body is a better option if you want to tackle somebody in certain situations. If you’re just a bit out of position to make a perfect tackle but you want to still get your body on someone in some manner, “launching” is the only way to perhaps take someone down. The fact that the NFL is making things easier for QBs and receivers makes it more likely DBs are going to not be in perfect position and encourage them to take any shots they can get. Where these philosophies cross is probably going to wind up in injuries.
tbh, this is all about intention. There have been some players over time that just play dirty and intentionally want to take out somebody’s knee and go low on purpose. That’s criminal!
I’m not sure Kerby was intentionally trying to take this dude’s knee out vs just trying to play physical. And once you launch your body just a bit out of position and your just a little further from the player than a perfect jarring hit requires, you wind up going lower, your helmet is down and bad things happen.
I am of the opinion that a good chunk of the responsibility lies on the Ram’s offense. They decided to run that play and throw that ball to that spot in front of Joseph. Design better routes or make better decisions and throws. Do you know who tried to tackle high this past weekend? James Bradberry from the Philadelphia Eagles. Take a look at his highlights against the Bucs. He’s getting skewered on every platform out there.
You know, I think seeing the dude’s leg tweak like that is what has us hating this so much.
If Higbee doesn’t bobble, he’s bracing himself for contact.
I’ve heard that reply in this this thread a couple of times but I’m not sure it holds. If Sam Laporta took that hit, I’m pretty sure you wouldn’t be blaming BJ for drafting the play or JG for throwing the pass or SL for agreeing to run the route. You might be blaming the Rams. I don’t know maybe you would feel the same way.
Anyway, it sure is easier to talk about losing a knee when it aint your own regardless of which side you stand on this issue.
If Dan Campbell thought the play was dirty he would have said it was and also it would have been addressed with Kirby. 3 years of watching his interviews and I’ve never seen a more honest and forthcoming coach. Just my opinion.
By far the Rams best fan forum imo, though as with all fan forums they definitely have their share of whiners
And yeah they’re all crying over the officiating and hit on Higbee, funny how nobody mentions Stafford leading his TE into a dangerous area, you have 6’6” 260 lbs vs 6’1” 203 string bean, now if it were Jack Campbell tackling low I’d be disappointed, mid 4th quarter playoff life at stake, sorry fellas KJ did what he had to do to bring that beast down, oh and it was a 100% legal hit
Sucky situation but that’s football
Nice to know Goff sent McVay and MS packing, maybe they can relive moments in Cancun
I mean, what’s he supposed to do? Get trucked?
This is a just a moronic narrative.
If it had been an OL pulling and he did that then yes, that’s dirty AF but this guy had the ball in his hands, he has to tackle him or he loses his job.
I’ve been thinking about it. If they keep adding safety rules, which they undoubtedly will, then the weird style of blitz like a MFer and play bend don’t break (and break at times on the back end) that we’ve plaid the last six weeks will be the preferred style of defense.
Whatever. He missed the throw. Kerby made a legal play. I want Kerby to make that play until it’s illegal. It’s the smartest play. It just is. It may be the most dangerous from a season ending injury standpoint but it’s one of the safest from a life affecting brain injury standpoint.
But as Dan said. Keep those eyes up. No more Utleys or Browns.
