Defensive Building Blocks?

Who are the guys on this defense you see playing a meaningful role on this defense in 2 years? Who do we have right now as a core to build around?
We need some true star power, but I don’t think we are that far off with a few key additions. Below is my list with grades on what I see there potential as.

A - All Pro Potential

B - High End Starter/Pro Bowler

C - Solid Starter

D - Key Rotational Piece

DLine - Hutchinson (A), Paschal (B), McNeil (C), Cominsky (D)

LBer - Rodriguez (C), Board (D)

DBs - Okudah (A), Kerry Joseph (C), Tracy Walker (C), Jacobs (D), Melifonwu (D)

LBer has by far the least talent. I think we found a keeper in Rodriguez, but we don’t have much else. We could also use a couple CBs, an edge, and another safety.

I am at the point where I think we need to trade for a LB.

Hey now!! Barnes played 18 snaps yesterday on defense, and even though he didn’t have any tackles, he came very close to touching a RB once and that shows huge improvement. lol

I like this post, and agreee with ahwt you say.
I view Rodrigo as a C/B tweeter though.
I also think ONE bad MF’r of a DT changes the entire gig for everyone.

I also see more depth/rotational guys than you do, but that’s always gonna change as we churn the bottom of the roster, as well as push them down as we improve the starters

Haha! I didn’t realize he lives in Orlando. Don’t be surprised if I send a pic of me and him having a burger together…AFTER he shaves his head!

Kerby’s gonna come back more handsome after next offseason!

Yep and I finally figured it out yesterday. AA is definitely DC pet, after meeting AA wife and baby yesterday, i see why. DC wants to pipe her, lol.

On a serious note, our LB play is piss poor, by all but Rodrigo. AA is better than Barnes, however, meither should be starting on a good defensive team

Rodrigo would be playing special teams for most nfl teams. I’m not sure we have an nfl caliber starter on the team.

The only guys that have a record of being a playmaker are Hutch, Joseph and Rodrigo. No one else makes game changing plays.

This is what I always said about the Lions’ previous front offices: They draft depth. But never get playmakers. Hutch is known to get sacks. Rodrigo gets TFL and Joseph has a knack for INTs. And as we can see, Joseph is getting closer and closer as he gets more comfortable. Now, if we get a playmaking MLB…or a penetrating DT…we’ll be in business.

I think Joseph has the potential to be more than just a solid starter.
