it’s painfully obvious that this defense is weak and near dead last in the league, therefore this draft has to be a defensive one IMO we need 4 top shelf defenders no matter what and by any means ! and STOP going bargain-basement shopping to fill roles.
we have to get a solid o-line piece at our weakest point there and MAYBE a beast RB.
but Defense SHOULD BE the absolute focus !!!
I agree, but a RB is a need also.
RT, Run blocking guard, and running backs are the biggest need on offense
I wish we could have had our defensive line healthy going into the season. I feel like our d-line has been ravaged by injury. I agree though we could use more defensive playmakers.
Bob Quinn said we need play makers. Play makers at any position. That means every position is on the table, except maybe offensive guard.
Oh how I’ve wanted an elite defense for a long time…
We did, just a few short years ago. Just accompanied it with a pissy O. Sound familiar?

If we had this years offense to go with the 2014 defense, we probably would have made the Super Bowl.
Gonna need an OG too if Glasgow leaves. There are a number of players whose contract is up, on both sides of the ball. Going to be a busy off-season for the Lions.

I want veterans on D and young controllable guys on OL and RB in this off-season.

We tried to upgrade the defense, but everything the lions touch goes to flames. I wish we used that 20 million we had and did a little more with it.
Too early to say. What if we start to play better. Miss the playoffs but pick around 20.
Hypothetical: Laviska Shenault is there. He’s the top player on our board by far. The Lions scout’s think he’s special. Do you not take him? Jones will be 30. It’s enough of a need IMO.
Forget the particular player. But I think we need special players. I think it’s less imperative as to which side of the ball they are on. We need to find a transcendental talent. As terrible as the Lions have been we’ve still more often than not had one over the last 30 years. Much like you, I’d prefer to find an edge rusher like that but we may pick in the middle of the round and the truly elite edge rushers may all be gone.
Find a superstar. If that happens everything else works itself out.

lol, we are not ONE superstar / “special player” away from being great defensively when we are 31st-ranked.
and one great player is not going to be the answer to all our issues. so it’s not as easy as find a superstar and BAM , we’re destined for greatness.

So not my point. My point is that our roster lacks game changers. Finding game changers is IMO more crucial then plugging a particular hole on offense or defense. Game changing talents allow you to often have positive outcomes despite a weakness somewhere on the field
ok but since when do we get game-changing talent? CJ WAS the last one…
Correct. It’s not easy for sure. I’m just saying that a game changer on offense is more imperative than adding an above average defensive starter would be.
All things being equal though my preference would of course be a transcendental defensive talent.
see when I say above average player* BECAUSE our “average” players can’t seem to stay healthy, cant tackle, can’t rush the QB, can’t get sacks or be disruptive, and play healthy half the season. “above average player” is durable, is disruptive, and is solid at his position in this thread, Defensively -speaking. we are CLOSE to saying the same thing. I feel it is due time for our front office to break out the musty cash and get some beast players on defense and offense.
not just bargain/serviceable types. I’m not saying putting all our cash into a few players but get Fikng real here…there isn’t a player on the team that anyone fears playing or is concerned about facing outside Stafford. …MAYBE a WR or TE they would take off our hands. but the cupboards are bare defensively. or our leaders are pin heads and it doesn’t matter who we draft I haven’t decided which.
I agree with you. Unfortunately it appears that Quinn doesn’t. He spends his draft plugging holes, not looking for top talent.

He stated before last year’s draft that he wanted playmakers that the team needed playmakers. Where some of you guys get this shit out I’ll never know.
Then why isn’t he drafting playmakers?
