Den Health/Fitness Thread! Vote please!

Fellas,

Please consider my post below… it’s good for you I swear.

I’ve been trying to hit 10,000 steps per day since November 1st, and so far, so good, 15 days in a row, despite some very sore feet, I’m feeling not too bad so far.

Lots of walking and hiking. But no judgement, I just want to see people being active and getting off their asses no matter their age. I’m sure we got some marathons runners in here that can kill us in here, but that’s not the point of this. It’s for overall well-being and health reasons.

I believe we all need to exercise way more than we do… maybe we can create a fun group of Lions Den members to encourage each other and even hold each other accountable for health/fitness.

Cheers! Nothing but love for you guys!

I train annually for my half and or full marathon here in OKC: Oklahoma Run to Remember!

And one wants to come out and run! Well, jog and walk a lot with me, it’s the last Sunday on April….

Remember folks!! “No matter how slow you go, you are still faster than everyone on the couch”!:upside_down_face::heart::pray::+1:

I’m slowly getting back there brother, I was so lazy for 2 years, the pandemic made it worse, but seriously, that’s just an excuse in my book. I went from being pretty fit @ 38 to out shape at 40+

The saying “use it or lose it” is so accurate. I think we could make a great community of fitness with Lions fans that encourage each other, even if it’s a small one.

Yea why not!? We already all have a relationship on the site.

It’s not even just about fitness or health, more about supporting each other through hard times… and not giving up ever. Lions fans should be experts at that, haha

So I hit the treadmill everyday (unless incredibly hungover) for 45-50 mins on an incline walk (4.2 mph at a 15 incline). I put a TV in front of it so I can watch Sportscenter or Good Morning Football during the week. Then later in the day I’ll either go for a 2-3 mile walk or hit the bike for 25-30 mins.

I’ve been doing this for the last 18 months and I’ve dropped 20lbs (despite having a few bevies each night and not crazy dieting all the time). I’m 48 (49 in a few months). I try to jog once in a while but my knees start to hurt after a mile or so.

Honestly, my back feels better after my treadmill sessions….

I’ve had an Apple iWatch since last Christmas and it helps with the motivation.

Kudos to you and to everyone fighting the good fight.

I’ve been far too reliant upon my handsomeness, as of late and could really stand to get my body in a happier place.
I’ve been world class with my soul, emotional intelligence, connecting with ppl, etc…
The physical realm I get to do better…FOR…SURE!

When I was working ER that was always my excuse, because I definitely got in my steps and also some weight lifting… and I was thin! but it was always why I would be lazy on my days off. Although even if I could get back to 3 days a week of exercise I n l know I would feel better and probably want to do 5-6. Really gotta cut back on the booze and smokes…

So a quick story. I have a projector TV in my basement and of course watch a lot of sports down there. I thought why am I on the couch when I could start walking back-and-forth in the basement while watching sports. This was in July of this year. So I start to do a couple of miles a day, and eventually I was up to 6 to 10 miles per day. Very quickly I had hit 84 miles. Unfortunately, the twisting back-and-forth every 30 feet on my knees didn’t go so well. I ended up tearing my meniscus. It’s been a lot of pain since then. I’ve seen my GP and had physical therapy for a month. Followed up with the MRI and a trip to the orthopedist this past Monday. It’s better than it was but the doctor said eventually I’ll probably have to have knee replacement surgery. But he wants to see how it goes for a while. He might give me a Cortizone shot if it gets worse. Sucks when you try to do the right thing and end up getting screwed.

I’ve started back on the elliptical for now, but really only for a few minutes a day. I’m going to try to work it up to 30 minutes per day by the end of the year. I still do some weight lifting every morning that I’m not traveling. Good luck to all on your endeavors. Getting old blows.

I ~had~ a routine that evidently didn’t involve enough stretching, as I hurt my lower back a year and a half ago biking, which then took me out of that routine. In one year I’ve gone from working toward joining the century club (cycling 100 miles) to working toward fitting in a Santa suit without additional padding.

My healthy routine is about 20 minutes of rowing with about 25 minutes of stationary bike. I need to get going with that again, adding some serious stretching to the routine.

I feel you, bro.

Don’t hate me.

I’ve never had a problem getting motivated for exercise. For me, the momentary discomfort of exertion is rewarded with a flood of endorphins afterwards, so that expectation makes it fairly easy for me get my ass moving.

Cross country and competitive swimming introduced me to that dynamic. Later, distance running including five marathons cemented that reward system for me. At about 45, I stopped the running to preserve my knee and leg joints, and started lifting weights with a lot of repetitions.

Up until about 55 I couldn’t sit still long enough to watch a two hour movie comfortably. So I guess movement was pretty much in the cards for me. Exercise is what gets my head right too, where I come to solutions or at least momentary relief from my dilemmas.

At 72, I get up at 5:30 most mornings for a leisurely 35 minute bike ride and I go to the gym most afternoons for a short workout with stretching. I also do modern line dancing which requires practice, and I probably spend half an hour to an hour a day trying to learn and remember a gazillion dances for various socials and events. That counts as exercise.

So if you’re not used to regular exercise, start slow and try to notice how good you feel afterwards. So I say…
