Depth Chart is pretty well set... Now draft DIFFERENCE MAKERS!

We were just about as aggressive in FA as I hoped/expected us to be 3 weeks ago, but somehow managed to do it a HELLUVA lot cheaper than I anticipated!!! I thought we would be targeting almost the exact same guys we did, but I thought we’d have to sacrifice Romeo and Big V (at least… mabye Cabinda or Harris) to do it…

Instead we kept our guys and their upside, while getting them back for pennies on the dollar, and somehow we got guys like Mosely and CGJ on the cheap…

I wanted… CGJ- Sutton- Pratt- Swaggy… we got CGJ- Sutton- Montgomery- Moseley- AA??? I think we are well ahead?

Now what?

Frankly I think I have exhausted the mock draft machine on PFF- and come away convinced we need to go QB, W Anderson, T Wilson, Skoronski/OL at #6… I don’t see Gonzalez as a true game changing impact player, and I think very very few CBs are… Next year there will be a whole new crop of DBs available, and that is because about 34-38 get drafted every year, and keep coming due…

I could see Levis or Richardson having massive upside, and if Goff isn’t ready/willing to take a Carr-like extension (plus or minus a few bucks) then I would consider QB here if a guy Dorsey and DC loved- fell to #6… If Young falls, and 3 QB needy teams already had passed, then I’d be inclined to as well. His size will either detour most teams, or he will go top 2 so it won’t matter…

Bijan
Darnell Washington
A Adebawore
Jack Campbell
JSN

If we coudl somehow get 3 of these guys, and an extra pick or 2, I’d be stoked… I think Titans will be ripe to trade up to #6 for #11, #41, and #72 if a QB they love (and we are good with Goff) falls…

At #11 and #18 I could see us getting JSN/Bijan and D Washington/Adebawore…

If the Titans move up from #11 to #6……

Lions better be getting their 1st rounder in 2024.

I’d be happy to get the 11th their second and fourth rounder for 6 overall.

The Titans look to be a team that could really crap the bed in 2023… which means their 2024 picks could be very high.

Also… how many rookies are gonna make the 53-man roster at this point???

Our 4th round pick can be a solid guard to develop that can push Stenberg or that guy we got from the eagles off the roster. The second rounder could be a wideout so we can move on from Reynolds.

Great question…

3- Specialists- Badgley, Fox, McQuaide

3- QBs- Goff… Sudfeld… rookie QB

4- RBs- Monty…Swift… rookie RB… Netflix

6- WR- ASB… Jamo… JRey…Raymond… rookie WR… TK

3- TE- Wright… J Mitchell… rookie TE

3- OT- Decker, Sewell, M Nelson

2- C- Ragnow, Glasgow, rookie OL

3- OG- Jackson, Big V, Awosika

5- DE- Hutch, Comish, Paschal, Romeo, C Harris

5- DT- McNeill, Buggs, B Benito, Levi, rookie DT

3- SLB- J Houston, JOK, Pittman

2- MLB- Anzalone, D Barnes

2- WLB- Rodrigo, Rookie LB

6- CB- Sutton, Okudah, Jacobs, Moseley, Harris, Lucas, Rookie CB

5- CGJ, K Joseph, T Walker, CJ Moore, Iffy

3 - Specialists
25- Offense
29- Defense

There are 4 extra bodies here…. This is counting on rookie QB, RB, WR, TE, OL, DT, LB, CB… and a K potentially.

Not every rookie will make the team, often 5-7 rounders end up on the PS…. The benefit is we don’t have to finalize a 53 man roster for a LONGGGGG time….

So if the Lions hit on a rookie QB then Sudfeld can become a PS allocation. A guy like TK as a #6 WR could easily be a PS guy…. I would expect a rookie CB beats our Lucas and who knows if Levi plays at all… if we use a pick on a kicker in 6, and he beats out Money Badger we save money- and if not we have a vet….

So…, Lions already have 5 picks in top 80-ish….

do they trade down and more???

My thought is that a trade down adds picks in 2024…

or a trade up may be in the plan….

This is what I have been seeing and saying would eventually happen, though I didn’t see it happening until next year. Brad gets such high-quality people that we are far more concerned with quality. They all can’t make the roster anyway.

Why? He does everything asked of him.

I 100% doubt they move off of reynoldswhile goff is here

Ross Pierschbacher C/OG was one of first UFA resigned think was ERFA Doesn’t mean he makes it but should be counted.

So here is my issue….

OG: Big V and Glasgow- I presume Big V takes a 5M haircut and he and GG count a collective 10M against the cap this year…. I believe both will be gone next year, or GG will be back relatively cheap as a swing OG/C depth piece….

  • I’m equally concerned about J Jackson and his potential extension cost, and the potential age/health/contract situations of V and GG…. Keep in mind we will also be looking at Sewell mega extension, and Decker will be entering his final year…. I’m aware the same could be said for any team, but having 1-2 solid OL players in 1.5-3M a year 4-5 year deals would be amazing!!

RB: we bet 12M guaranteed in Monty, but after his 6.8M hit in 24’… he can be cut and we’d free up 5M in 25’! Swift is gone after this year, and not very reliable to stay healthy, and we sure aren’t signing him long term… Netflix is a glue guy and camp body- zero upside….

  • I don’t see a RB likely to be in this team in 2025, and my bigger concern is Monty getting hurt and Swift not being able to stay healthy for 3-4 games to cover for him. Another scenario where a team friendly 4-5 year deal would be ideal, and maybe one with a home run element to his game?

QB: I think we offer a very QB friendly system where an athletic and accurate guy like Stetson B or C Tune could prove a steal, or a DTR or J Ha could be a sneaky dual threat option in certain situations… RPO would be a nice change of pace if Goff was out to keep teams off balance. I prefer the upside of a Bennett on a 1M deal vs paying Heineke type. I see some similarity between them actually.

WR: I love some of the guys in the late 2-3 range. I like AT Perry height and speed… Palmer is a DAWG who loves to block, maybe as much as Ra…. With some uncertainty tied to Jamo, and JR and Raymond both on 1 year deals…. It would be nice to land a WR4/5 for 2023 with upside to be a WR3 in 2024 for 3 more cheap years….

TE: We don’t have a true bulldozer like Blake Bell, or a red zone target like Uzomah or Gesecki…. There are so many TEs in the class that are elite blockers, receivers and some both…?

DT: We need a guy more reliable than Levi O, and more talented than Buggs or Benito Jones to start week 1…. Another cheap 4-5 year deal….

LB: Does anyone else think we need a guy with a higher ceiling than Anzalone and more dynamic that Rodrigo? I love Mrod- but he doesn’t cover the field like his speed would indicate. He tested great, and was a true gem to find in the 6th, but he doesn’t cover ground like Greenlaw for example…

CB: a deep class, and 4 guys on one year deals right now…. I love depth and our safety depth…. I’d like a guy who was clearly a better long term option than Jacobs and maybe Moseley.

Trade #6 and #152…… #11, #41, #72 Titans want Levis

Trade #41, #81, #194 To Chiefs for #31 and #134

-11. JSN- WR
-18. A Adebawore- 3T
-31. D Washington - TE
-48. J Gibbs- RB
-55. S Avila- OG
-72. D Overshown- LB

    1. Jakorian Bennett- CB
    1. Clayton Tune

People roasted Jalen Rose when he said men should pay a minimum of $100 for a haircut, but even he would probably balk at 5 mil.

Your playing pretend again with all the trades . Its that you want to many during draft so you make up trades. Now trades can happen but who knows your just fooling yourself .

We don’t need all those players. No way they take 2 LBs

The whole draft is open to Homes he can get just about any player he wants he has enough ammo to move any place in the draft. Other than the first two picks

Its fun to guess who but I like real no trades .

Playing pretend….?

I suggest-

CGJ
Sutton
Troy Hill
Pratt
Glasgow
Commish
Buggs
W Harris

We keep or sign-

CGJ
Sutton
Moseley
AA
Commish
Buggs
W Harris
CJ Moore
G Glasgow
David Montgomery.

  • IN REALITY WE WENT BIGGER!!! We also kept C Harris and Romeo somehow in the process….

I have no idea if the draft trades are realistic…. What I do know is that we could really use some contract length at WR… a viable backup QB…. Some speed at RB… a starting TE…. A high ceiling guy at LB…. A 4 year contract at CB…. A legit starting DT- some interior OL help not on a 1 yr.

We don’t need 2 LBs? I proposed one in rd 3…. A missile who at 6’3” and 229 with 4.5 speed- he could be the blitz and cover off ball linebacker we need, and he can learn behind AA….

We don’t need a WR? I’m we have one guy on our roster that has recorded a 700 season in the NFL, and only 2 guys under contract beyond 23’…

We don’t need a TE? A team that looks at Zylstras fluke 3 TD game… in a loss- or is counting on big things from Mitchell- or hoping Wright can take another step, is a team BIG ON HOPE, low on brains… they money all TE thing worked, but it’s not really a plan…

RB- Montgomery is a physical player who gets banged up, Swift gets hurt coming out of the tunnel, and Netflix is a depth guy coming off a serious injury…

OG- 30 yr old Big V has the back… Glasgow was really solid here years ago, but we shall see now? We have V, Glasgow and Jonah Jackson essentially on 1 yr deals…. I’d feel much different if we extended J Jackson for 4 years and 50M- right now…. It wouldn’t even impact our cap til our RGs were gone, and soon we can restructure our LT- I think Decker will take a bit less at age 32…but who knows….

——— if the Lions drafted like this….

Let’s say…

-6- -Bijan
-18- Adebawore

  • trade up to #31- Darnell Washington
  • 55- Daiyan Henley
  • 152- Antonio Mafi
  • 183- Tune
  • 194- DTR

So we get a 5 year deal on a guy who could be the best RB in the NFL in 2 years…

We get a guy who destroyed the combine and measured ideally for a penetrating 3T, and killed senior bowl week…. IMO he’s an ideal 3T that can kick outside to a 4-5T if necessary.

We get a bulldozer at TE, who could almost play OT if he chose…. He has elite hands and will be a red zone monster. He will keep defenses on their toes- they will need a DE to jam him- that will take away from pass rush- and if they double him inside- you leave ASB or Jamo 1-1? One guy makes us better in run and pass game, better in redzone-

Henley is the cover your RBs and TEs blitz LB-

A Mafi is raw but has the size and tools- this later pick affords the starts to go to GG or Big V, but offers a cheap long term plan hopefully.

We go QB back to back to ensure we get ine NFL ready backup…
