Detroit Lions 1st Round Misses

The struggle was real. Thinking about what could’ve been if we got any of these picks right is painful and literally could have re-written Lions history.

Suh with a Cam? Stafford with OBJ or JJ? :sob:

I don’t see it as “misses” , Brad went out and did his usual BH draft, what did we miss?
The O-line isn’t a problem anymore. a WIN for the team.
The Defense got some help and some depth help for this season, it was a small step the right direction -barring injuries, we should-be “as good” if not a touch better-than 2025. while it was “good” I think we still need 5 or 6 real dawgs on the defense and not “depth types” that may not even see a game in 2026. SO, I file our defense in the Incomplete file. “for now”

He isn’t referring to Holmes and the current regime.

The “Cam” is either Cam Jordan or Cam Heyward… from Mayhew’s 2011 draft… rather than Nick Fairley.

JJ is Justin Jefferson… from Quinn’s last draft in 2020…. rather than Okudah at #3 overall. Nobody had Jefferson going in the top 5 picks, but perhaps that draft would have been a good to trade down multiple times because it wasn’t top heavy.

The ONLY first round “miss” in the Brad Holmes era isn’t even a miss. Trading up in 2022 and not getting Kyle Hamilton is the only thing we can say we “missed” on.

But we got Jamo instead so , doesn’t even matter Jamo is a dawg and my favorite

For me it was the TJ Watt miss bc If I remember correctly Quinn was attempting to create “smoke” by saying the lions were all in on Watt………..

Crazy to think, most of this board hated Hamilton/down played him big time as a prospect

I was absolutely certain that when we traded up to 12, it was for Kyle Hamilton.

Really? I wasn’t around here for that.

Yes, almost similar to how much love Aaron Curry had on this board

It was the same scheme fit conversations as Cooper DeJean but on steroids

If your scheme doesn’t fit Kyle Hamilton or Cooper Dejean then you need a new scheme

Pretty much garbage for the 2000’s. (With one first ballot HoF’er)Then it picked up with Stafford and beyond. More decent players to stars than busts. Tomlinson’s one of the worst picks. J Davis also Garbo. But the rest can at least be pinned as “decent” I would argue. Even though Ebron (and BMW) will always be my personal most hated picks ever. :face_vomiting:

Since 2000, before Brad, it was rounds 2-7 where I think we could looked at as true sh_t. I would love to see a chart for how many of our 2-7 picks never played, or barely played, or never played a down with another team.

The 2005-2019 2nd round picks really needs to be looked at and dissected by someone to see if it’s the worst stretch of picks ever. Slay, Delmas and Abdullah could be listed as decent to quality picks. But the rest…

then specify, when the thread title , literally says: Detroit Lions 1st round misses." AND we just got done with the 26 draft- I figured it meant our latest draft, not $^%@# 2011.

.

He only mentioned Stafford and Suh for Lions players, both of whom were drafted over 15 years ago.

That was the clue Holmes.

well my bad- I talk about things that happen or is happening with the Lions , recently-not 15/20 years ago, when all that is history. that has very little to do with current team issues right now. so I apologize bc the talk of 25 years ago went over my head.

I hear ya Wolf…. this topic definitely came out of left field.

Seems a little late to worry about who was drafted 15 years ago.

What a “post”.

I thought we were going to talk about WR Mark Nichols from the 1981 draft. That is a dead horse that is still worth a few kicks. Or maybe Terry Fair?
