I will add something else to our 2025 schedule that people should like. One of the reasons why I hate facing teams that are coming off of a BYE is that they have so much extra time to study us. One thing you will notice is that teams coming off of a BYE can sometimes expose a weakness in the next opponent that other teams generally don’t have time to find or put into the gameplan to execute. The BYE team can go out and execute on the flaw they saw on gameday, and the teams watching that film will see it as well. So suddenly, everyone you play going forward knows about that flaw. If you don’t fix it quickly, it can snowball as teams exploit it and add their own spin on it.
We do not play a single team coming off of their bye week. And the constant short weeks our opponents have will limit their normal study week. A typical week looks something like this:
Monday - The players will get treatment and lift weights while the coaches study gamefilm from the previous game as well as film of the next opponent. The players will be given feedback on the last game, but not much about the gameplan for the next opponent.
Tuesday - The players have a day off to relax and spend time with family. Some players even fly “home” on Monday afternoon/night and return Tuesday night. The coaches work diligently to put the plan together for the upcoming opponent, and the specific talking points they want to get thru to the players when they return on Wednesday. Franchise QBs will often times come to the facility on the off day, which allows them to start downloading the gameplan. It gives them extra time understanding it, and allows them to take charge the following day instead of hearing the plan for the first time.
Wednesday - This is where the gameplan gets “installed.” Alot of veteran players who play physical positions feel like dog poop this day, so they are limited in what they can do physically.
Thursday & Friday - Each team puts their own spin on these days. It depends on the point in the season and what the area of focus is at the time. Sometimes its focused heavily on the next opponent and the gameplan. Sometimes its focused on individual fundamentals. Sometimes its working on stuff that has nothing to do with the upcoming opponent, but will be needed later in the season. NOTE: Many coaches won’t play some guys if they can’t fully participate on Thursday and Friday leading up to the next game.
Saturday - Generally speaking this is a “walk-thru” day. The hay is in the barn.
Sunday - Game time!!!
When teams have a short week it compresses everything above.
Monday - They are playing on Monday, while the other team is getting treatment, lifting weights and the coaches are studying the last game and next opponent.
Tuesday - The players suddenly don’t have an off day - and Tuesday is now the Monday routine. If the coaches decide to make it an off day, the entire weekly routine gets compressed even more.
Wednesday - The gameplan is being installed, with much less time to study or discuss implementation tactics amongst the staff. The players body feels like its Tuesday.
Thursday & Friday - On Thursday the players body feels like its a Wednesday, which is a horrible day for the guys who play physical positions. Despite the aches and pains, many guys have to fight thru it or risk being left off of the active roster.
Saturday - Decisions have to be made. Generally speaking this day is just a rehash and walk-thru of what was installed during the week. But was there enough time? The short week team has to make a choice of living with a “limited” gameplan or risking last minute adjustments that haven’t been sufficiently practiced and drilled into the players heads.
Sunday - Game time!!!
that Wes coast trip to LA could be a huge game…. ![]()
aside from all the Stafford/Goff drama.
Ready for the revenge game against the Commanders and a healthy Aidan Hutchinson.
Bears game, will Ben get booed?
Naaahhh.
Some will… And in my head, I will truthfully
I think most people will follow the leader leadership of Dan Campbell, and keep it fairly classy
I think I’m probably in the minority and holding a bit of a grudge
Drink lots of liquid if you all go outside and watch the team practice at training camp.
That’s a loaded schedule—prime time all over the place with MNF, SNF, and a bunch of Thursday games. Gonna be a fun season to watch
