Yesterday the Lions announced when they will hold their Rookie Mini Camp.
The only date left is training camp. Which typically isnt announced until after mandatory mini camp.
I expect the Lions to be very early in that window this year because they are playing in the HOF game this year. Typically NFL teams that play in that game report the Tuesday the week before the game.
Draft is the start of a little more information on player performances.
Rookie camp next weekend
team OTA’s…remember voluntary 2-3weeks later
Training camp
I just want to know if we’ll be playing in the season opener Thursday night against Philly. I’m trying to make plans here. When do they announce the schedule? Gotta be soon.
I’ve come to the realization that playing in the hall of fame game is really freaking stupid. Why should training camp ever need to start a month and a half before your first game?
Like, by week four, there’s no way you’re still getting good work in. The best of the best would be experiencing burnout by that point.
Might be good for some of the roster battles… Like the rookies and fringe roster guys who need more reps.
But the veterans that are locks to make the team are gonna absolutely hate it. Guys like Reader, GG, and Decker for example… 6 weeks of training camp? Hopefully Coach gives them several days off in camp. If ZaDarius sees that… No way he’s signing until mid training camp.
It’s up to the staff to guide them through whatever obstacles are in their way. The early start to training camp and the extra preseason game are just 2 of them. Cutting mandatory minicamp was one step in their guidance.
