Detroit Tigers: Spring Training 2026 Feb 11; Full roster Feb 15

From the DetNews:

It was a fair question.

Why did Reese Olson, who was expected to compete for a spot in the Tigers’ rotation, wait until February to have surgery on his right shoulder? Turns out, Olson had a very good explanation for that Wednesday.

“I reinjured my shoulder in October, right when we were done with the season,” said Olson, who had season-ending surgery on Feb. 2 to repair the labral in his right shoulder. “I did the rounds for a week talking to doctors throughout the country.”

Those doctors told Olson there was a chance he could avoid surgery with a longer, more detailed rehab. It was a bit of a Hail Mary, but it was the only chance of being able to play this year.

“Whether I had the surgery now or in October, I still would’ve missed the full season,” Olson said. “And, either way, I expect to be ready by opening day in 2027. That was the thought process.”

Nick the Stick has been released by the Philly’s… should we kick the tires? Any team can sign Castellanos for the $780,000 major league minimum. Hey, I’ll provide him all the beer he needs if he can hit .265 and 20 dongers. LOL - Maybe for oldtime sake he will come back to the Tigers, plus Dombroski is paying the 20 million on his contract- ha-ha.

@frm710 if you had to pick between Arraez and Castellanos, who would you pick?

Castellanos - he doesn’t cost anything

uh, neither?
I don’t want anything to do with Castellanos and right now I’m good waiting til the deadline for more additions.

Castellanos is Spanish for “That asshole can’t hit anymore and he could never field”.

At least that’s what Father Estafan told me in 4th grade after school Spanish.

I’m fact checking that… Dam you are correct. I would still kick those tires. He will end up in Toronto (replace Santander) - add 45 pounds and hit 45 dongers at DH/OF.

Well Arraez already signed. We had a debate earlier about him as a player, which is why I asked the question.

I’d absolutely hate bringing in Castellanos. He’s literally 2025 Parker Meadows bad at the plate and Arraez bad in the field.

All about the $$$— Nick wouldn’t cost much. If he sucks just cut him.

Toronto already traded for someone to replace him.
Kick the tires sure…sign him, hell no just kick him and call it good.

We have enough players in camp that are better than him fighting for a roster spot.

He does suck and that’s why he was cut.

He could get better. Had an off year. :joy: You guys act as if the Tigers are some type of hitting juggernaut. Can’t be picky when your hitting sucks. Worth a look. But apparently the Tigers are loaded with bats.

LOL.
No we aren’t but we are realistic on Nick C. There are better options than him in camp already so why waste the time…

I mean…not really. He had a good season in 2023 and has been bad the entire rest of his time with the Phillies.

I wanted Arraez because he’s the best bat-to-ball guy in the entire league. He might not have an .800 OPS, but at least he’s going to put the ball in play almost every AB. Castellanos isn’t particularly good at any part of playing baseball anymore. That includes contact, power, fielding, and speed around the basepaths.

Great plan…

Sign Arraez

Sign Castellanos

LOL- well these great bats were conspicuously hidden the last few years… because sometimes you get lucky and just might squeeze a good season out of an aging veteran.
