Detroit Tigers

You are absolutely right about that!

While I do think that it’s possible we could have won multiple championships with Bosh, I still believe Sheed was the key to bringing that squad together. In fact I’m more certain that a bonded '03-'04 squad with Sheed was a better team than 3 average starters, one defensive stud and a star who demands attention could have been.

Rasheeds presence levitated that entire team in my opinion.
And honestly, I don’t think we would have made that trade if Darko hadn’t been drafted and failed from the start.

This is just from a different perspective I guess.
But I would rather the certainty than possibility.
Sheed put a stamp on it in my opinion.

Yes you are right…but add Bosh to the group along with Sheed and I do believe they win at least one other title

There are very very few managers in this league that would have impressed anyone with this roster and injury list. The tigers have to hit a home run on the next gm hire. Sadly I don’t have faith in Chris illich like I did his dad. I don’t think winning is as big a priority for him.

So i am basically going to die before the next world series because this will take willing ownership too. Non bus driving ownership.

You and me both, better luck with the Lions! Think about that one…

I don’t think it’s that much doom and gloom. We still have a lot of talented pitching prospects. Greene looks like an absolute home run pick. All you need is a couple solid bats and a few guys to have career years. None of us expected 2006 to happen. That wasn’t the most talented tigers team we’ve had lately. It’s even more possible if torkelson comes around and starts to hit like he’s capable of.

I think you are right for the '03-‘04 team. And one could say we needed Sheed because Darko was such a flop. So, maybe if we don’t draft Darko, we never get Sheed.
But, I actually think one of Dumars’ biggest mistakes was re-upping Sheed, although I see why he did it at the time. Remember, Sheed was the one who let Horry shoot his three that sealed our fate the following year. After '04-'05, Sheed kept declining. And think of this – there were also some rumblings of us getting Garnett after '03-'04 (it would have been a sign-and-trade for Sheed, plus multiple draft choices, and maybe even Rip or Tay I forget now.) But - Chauncey, Tay or Rip, Bosh, KG and Ben? Whoa!
Hindsight…
Edit - I just looked it up and it would have been Darko and Sheed for KG. And it was because KG liked playing for Flip Saunders. That roster would have had AT LEAST three in a row!

I agree we have some spots but it will take years to get us to being close to a WS and those guys either won’t sign here or will be traded away because…they won’t sign here. I mean you can love the Tigers and be a hometown guy and want to stay but most are going to want to go somewhere for cash and wins. especially pitching. If you have say a 3.5 era and are 7-16 or something because we can’t score runs why would you stay? you’d kill on a competitive team.

Thankfully we have years on most of the prospects we’d likely want to keep. Most are under team control for many more years.

Love the new MLB schedule format for next season. Play all 29 other teams every season instead of playing the same teams in your division over and over and over again. Down to 52 games within the division instead of 76.

Solid find! (Also faintly remember that now).

Adds to my belief that drafting Darko was, kind of sadly (:man_shrugging:) a good thing.
And if done properly, could have been a muuuucch better thing.

Are they still playing baseball?
