I do agree with this
What do you mean? Like his concepts are objectionable to the players but he forces them upon them? That doesn’t sound right. I assume that I am misunderstanding what you mean.

He could still end up being terrible. I’m just not prepared to jump to any particular conclusion.
It’s like someone hit this board with that beam from Men In Black.
Ben Johnson is responsible for the worst offensive game plan in franchise history given the circumstances and when he had back up lineman in the team looked similar to today.
I remember scoring 17 vs Tampa at home, I remember whatever the hell we did in Baltimore, I remember not being able to run the ball at all versus Buffalo.
Johnson is one of the best, if not the best, play callers in the NFL.
There always well be a drop off from that.
Ah, so maybe the play calling needs to be better either on 1st/2nd down to get us to more manageable 3rd downs, or his 3rd down play calling in manageable situations needs to be better. I’m hard on Morton, probably too hard, but I haven’t seen any of his prowess to help us manage through some of our weaknesses or underperforming issues. That’s my main issue with him. That, and his overall demeanor just annoys the living shit out of me (I know, nothing to do with the football side of things).
I’m not sold yet and I’m not panicking yet.
These threads are always interesting to me bc we are making judgements off of such limited info.
I trust Dan
Which game?
Has to be Washington game reference doesn’t it?
Morton runs a lot of screens and short crossing patterns. Which are staples of Gruden (West Coast offense)’s concepts. Basically, the Tampa 2 and Cover 2 were created to take that away. That’s why we see a lot of two-high Safeties. They’re just playing a shell and unfortunately, it’s the perfect defense for our offense.
Ben runs a more creative, multiple version of offense. Pass plays are more Air-Raid. But, they run a multiple running scheme. They do it all on running plays.
If this is all true as you state, then it makes sense what @TouchdownMyPants said earlier in that much of our offensive concept is old school and dated. Campbell errored in hiring Morton instead of going outside his comfort zone on offense.
What’s also concerning, if Goff is so cerebral as many claim, and he gets them into the “right” play based on the defense presnap, then why isn’t he seeing the issues as well?
I think Goff is cerebral, but not to the level of Peyton Manning where he can call his own plays.
He still needs a Ben saying hey, here’s what we want to do, if not, check to this. I think he’s good at diagnosing what the defense is trying to do (today might be an exception), but maybe Morton isn’t explaining things in as much details as Johnson did. I’m just spitballing here, but Goff isn’t ready to just be his own OC.
I wanted to be sure.
I’ll never understand how 521 yards and 31 points equals awful play calling.
We don’t know what we don’t know… What’s Goff going to the line with? 2 plays? 3? I agree he’s good at diagnosing defenses pre snap, he’s not calling protections though, is that an issue as well? Nothing is easy this year, they’re struggling for every yard besides the few explosives from Gibbs
I’ll never understand how a offensive coordinator that scored 24 points and has the 4th most points in the NFL is bad but context matters
Agreed with all that. Dan has earned the benefit of the doubt. And I’m trying to keep in mind that all of these coaches have forgotten more about football than I’ll ever know.
Why didn’t they have a better plan for replacing Ben? They knew he would leave at some point… Shep was groomed for years… Doesn’t make sense
Why do we keep throwing that god damn pass out to the RB in the flat? The same stupid one that we did to Gibbs against Washington? Somehow we think that is a high percentage play for us, but it gets blown up every time.
Jets scored 39 vs Bengals. They are 5-3 but what good team have they beaten?
They are doing what they should vs a weak schedule.
It’s a blitz beater, but the Vikings were all over it today… Blocking was baaaaaad
