To be honest, I think the money is what makes it much worse. Most of the players today, who voluntarily miss a game, are most likely so loaded that money really means nothing to them. They know they can be a damn near complete asshole and there’s always another team that’s willing to sign them. So as a coach or a GM, what do you threaten them with? All you can do is trade them away and make them someone else’s problem.
Oh no doubt, but drama queens like lebron james and others makes the game pretty pathetic.
I get it, the NBA isn’t for everyone. Not to start anything, but if you don’t like the NBA, why are you posting in this thread? I’m not an NHL fan and I would not have anything to add to a Red Wings post. So I steer clear. I certainly wouldn’t go in there telling them how much I hate the sport. It’s cool that they like it. It’s just not for me. Nothing but peace brother.
Yea, well I agree with Marty NBA is a joke.
I’m 59, soon to be 60, shut up @stephenboyd57 , and I remember when NBA played several nights in a row. Traveling was an actual call by officials and breathing on players didn’t lead to fouls.
It’s why I have struggled to watch for years, decades. The Lebron Jordan comps are ridiculous, Jordan played how many back to back nights while today’s players complain about too many consecutive nights and the playoffs now take a 1/3 of the year…
GO Pistons, but the defensive minded Pistons are not what the NBA desires so they will be short lived, one series win perhaps and that will be it.
End Rant.
Im a piston fan, i haven’t watched anyone else. I will always root for Detroit. Last time i watched a nba final game was laker vs Celtics. When kobe was still playing. I respected him. I dont respect people sitting out.
I hear some real positive things from national NBA shows talking about the Pistons and their stifling defense. Who knows, maybe enough people like you (and me), who want to see good defense, tune in to watch the Pistons and like it. Maybe ratings go up. Maybe the Pistons shocked the world. Perhaps the NBA will realize there is another side to the court and the ratings prove that fans want to see that kind of ball. All sports are pendulum’s swinging back-and-forth from favoring the offense to favoring the defense. It’s happening in the NFL. In any event, I still like watching the NBA and really enjoy the Pistons grit right now. I hope the other teams keep playing soft ball. Defense will pick up here during the playoffs.
Probably a top 10 den rant of all time… But it’s under nba… Epic rant my friend
I miss the 80’s, 90’s NBA so much, it was my life way back when. Today’s game is a disaster, but I DO like the way the Pistons play it. Its like peeing in the wind to expect someone like Beef Stew to get a fair shake.
Somehow I missed this story…
I’m 99.9% sure I’ve been to that Buc’ees before!!
(And I have also been to the two other Buc’ees’s in Alabama too)
I was at that Buc’ees in February, one in Warner Robbins GA on Sunday. Jacksonville 3 weeks ago.
Fact is I will be back at the Warner Robbins location later today.
Cheapest gas around $2.59gal on Sunday
great find, thanks.
so its either points in the paint or a three pointer. geesh.
i’d like to see them change the three pointer to a uniform distance which would eliminate the three pointer near the baseline - which is a shorter, easier shot. Or widen the courth so the three pointer stays the same distance.
We went to that Jax Buccees a couple years ago, and now my wife won’t go to any Buccees anywhere. I don’t understand why. She says they’re skeevy and a ripoff. I personally didn’t see that, but her mind is made up.
I know this is radical, but what if instead of a 3 point shot it was a 2.5 point shot? It still gives that deep range a premium on points, but might generate better basketball play overall.
that could work. the heat map is that way for a reason - statistically those are the shots with the highest expected points. if three’s became 2.5, you’d definitely see fewer longer shots, and maybe even more two point shots out of the paint.
You wouldn’t see more two point shots out of the paint.
There’s literally no reason to ever take a longer (and therefore lower %) two point shot than you have to.
The only way I see the midrange becoming a part of the game again is if a shot inside the arc and outside the paint becomes worth more than 2 points. Maybe making a midrange shot worth 3 and a current three worth 4.
The problem is the 3 point line generates a significant reward based on the risk or percentage of the shot. If we can limit that reward, by only awarding say 2.5 points, it could incentivize players to take higher percentage midrange shots based on increased made-shot percentage. Now the downside might be more Hack-a-Shaq in the final minutes. It might be a good option to try in the D league first to understand the nuances. Not that I expect the NBA to do this, but just looking for solutions to change the games from the three-point shooting contests they’ve become.
The bottom picture looks like someone ran over my peepee. The top picture looks like they backed over it. Picture a woman scorned.
Also, I’d like to see a little bit more detail in this breakdown. Based on the top graph, it appears that players were at least as likely to shoot a 10 footer from the baseline than they were from just below the foul line. Not sure if that makes sense to me or jives with the reality of what I have witnessed.
Yep. You get it.
RIght now a 33% made shot rate at the three point line is the same as a 50% two point shot. Expected points in both cases = 1.0.
If you make the three point shot worth only 2.5 points then the same 33% from long distance produces only .825 expected points. Meaning you would only need to make 41.25% (.825 / 2) shots from two point range to have the same expected points as a 2.5 point shot. Which would likely expand the range of two-pointers taken.
