ESPN NFL free agency best fits: Chase Young to Detroit?

Behind a pay wall, but they have Zeitler going to the Titans, Chase Young going to Detroit (“low risk”), and Carlton Davis to the Jags.

The Titans? Why?

Only way Zeitler leaves is if he doesn’t care about winning anymore or another contender comes calling. At age 35 with zero super bowl appearances I can’t see him signing anywhere that isn’t a legit contender.

No way he ends up the Titans. If doesn’t resign with lions hes going to the Bears.

There’s no reason to let Zeitler walk unless he prefers to go elsewhere. I can’t imagine he’s signing for more than 1 year anywhere, the Lions have the cap space (for the last year in a long time probably) to load up on a 1 year deal so up the offer a bit if need be to have one more go at it then give Mahogany the Gasgow reps and have Graham as the versatile backup.

Also, Young is a turd. Clearly this writer doesn’t know about the Holmes/Campbell standard.

On another note, is anybody dying for some sports content now? The NHL and NBA are in their All Star breaks at the same time and NFL free agency stuff hasn’t begun yet. Boring week for pro sports.

Clearly the writer put almost no context into this at all.

Signing Young might be low risk, but it’s also going to be low reward. No thanks.

I can see Zeitler in Chicago, the Bears have the cap space to blow us out the water for him and we know they’re going to focus hard on building up that O-line

The craziest thing about Chase Young is that it feels like he’s been in the league for like 10 years, but he is only 25 years old! I remember when I thought he was going to be another Bosa in the nFL. He was top 20 in pass rush rate too last year, although the sacks weren’t there. Its conceivable that he’ll put up better numbers over the next five years. Also conceivable: that he could become the next Marcus Davenport with injury after injury.

that’s what I was thinking to .

That’s what happens with the ‘top 5 in the draft’ type guys. You hear their names soooo much leading up to the draft that it tricks your brain. They also get excessive media coverage their first 1-2 years if they do anything decent. It warps time perception…

Also, covid/quarantine seems to have permanently jacked up my perception of time for anything in that 2019-2021 range…

100% spot on. The rumor he was thinking of retiring was based on if they won the SB. He isn’t going to a rebuild.

I have rarely judged a player so negatively as I have Young. And it is not really his fault. It is really my expectations of what he was going to be in the league and what he has become. Which to be fair he feels like a floater and a low output effort player which is sooooooo unfair by me. I think he had some injury issues and it just has not worked out for him so far. And at tOSU he seemed almost unstoppable. Like he could just dial up a make and game changing play.

And I agree with @farmerted in that I can not believe he is only 25. How is that even possible? I would have guessed he was about 30 and had been in the league 8-9 years. He must be one of those issues with Covid and him falling in those weird years of both college and Pro football.

Didn’t we conclude that Young is a turd who doesn’t fit?

Holmes has had 2 opportunities to acquire Young a declined both times.
Choosing not to trade for him from Washington and last offseason as a free agent.
Also, the Saints will be the 3rd team that has chosen not to retain Young in a little over a year.
Chase is like the hot 40 year old lady that has never been married and is single and available.
Something must not be right.

I’m not saying he is coming here, or will even gain consideration…. But for us to pretend we “know” what Brad is thinking, how he feels l, or is certain what he will do is a bit silly.

We may not have gone after him in 2023 at the trade deadline, but we also didn’t go after any other edge players either. We didn’t sign him last year, but it’s possible they liked the person and the terms slightly more in Davenports 1 year deal. Had we believed he’d miss the entire year, I doubt we’d have resigned him.

He finished with a 66 overall grade, and with the 11th most pressures in the league at edge, and did it in 750 snaps. If Brad thought he checked out, and DC approved, then a 3 year 36M type deal could setup DE for us for 3 years, and then we take a “can crusher type in round 2-3 and suddenly we are stacked at DE in 2025 and even beyond?

I think Zietler is back here too btw
