Because this board is hard uofm fans. And it really has nothing to do with what school he went to at all. The dude was day 3 pick, low 3 star recruit, and made millions. He deserves credit
I guess we can say the same thing about Goff and at one point Stafford, and lets not forget about the great Dan Marino. I mean he is a top 10 qb all time, but never won nothing
Speaking of Marino… I saw a graphic last week comparing qb’s and I had forgot just how many INT’s Marino threw. He had 4 seasons with more than 20 ints thrown.
He was one of the most durable players in NFL history until his Achilles tear. Atlanta is a horrible fit for him and he wasn’t fully healthy last year. The guy wins at the line of scrimmage because he is so smart, he is also extremely accurate and tough. Probably the most underrated QB I can ever remember.
In all seriousness, I think you have to remember that Marino played in a different era. Before the NFL “cared” about player safety. When guys like Mark Carrier were routinely trying to decapitate receivers with helmet spears. When anything in the 80s was considered a really good QB rating. That’s more like 100 now. It’s a major reason I’m not impressed with the gaudy stats of a lot of these modern players, like Eli for example. It’s relatively new rule enforcement and it doesn’t take a great player to do it.
I can make an argument that he’s one of the most overrated QBs ever. How in the world has he made 330+ million but has only made the postseason 4 times? And has only won 1 playoff game?
There’s plenty to go against him for not being a top 10 QB over the last decade. And the only thing in his favor are statistics.
There has definitely been a couple seasons where I would say he’s top 10. But more times than not I don’t think that’s the case. Same with Goff BTW for what it’s worth…
