Well, I made it 34 hours during this last fast. I went to bed at about 10 PM. I took some melatonin to help myself sleep and I had a little head ache, so I took one aspirin too.
I woke up about 2:30 AM and tossed and turned till 6:30 AM, then I went out and made breakfast.
Now I am going back to bed.
Its been so long I canāt remember having any issues. So used to it now, I feel zero effects. In fact, I have zero sleep issues and head feels much clearer.
A few points on fasting from this crazy guys POVā¦
itās what we did 200 yrs ago. We ran our food down and killed it (a real freaking hard workout!) generating good health all in its own. And then we ate wonder how long it would be to our next mealā¦ fasting imo is a normal thing we got away from with farming and fast food and convenient stores like 711.
ive fasted periodically for yrs now and it works. Longest is 10 days and you MUST have a post fasting diet schedule in place to āwake upā your bodyās digestive system as itās goes to sleep. I missed piece to the puzzle of health as we never let it ārestāā¦ fasting give the digestive process a break.
Also, fasting imo helps you mentallyā¦ itās already been posted the will power you need to get they the first few days. You are practicing ānoā to your bodyās urgesā¦ and for a recovering alcoholic, this practice really helps with other scores of my live like being impulsive spending moneyā¦
the doctors today that frown in fasting have no clue ā¦ period. When I fast I end up feeling great, I lose weight, and feel mentally stronger as I accomplished a task.
I saved this one for last in case you donāt believe in the Bible.
Fasting is used to prepare for a fight or to show trust, obedience in the Bible over 25 timesā¦
Jesus did it to prepare to met the devil upon being baptized
Moses did it before talking to God
Daniel did it more than once
David did it in mourning and again in prayer
Elijah, Ezra and Esther did it
Darius did it to help protect David
Paul did it
The church of Antioch did it as well
Historical itās what we did as human
Biblically itās what weāre supposed to do.
(Matthew 6:16-18) Jesus says āwhenā not āifā to fastā¦
I cant recall the last time Iāve ever heard this being discussed sermon wise or just in a small group. Which is why I bring it up when I can. And in no offense to those not into it.
Yes, I agree.
I am a Catholic that attends both a Catholic church and a new testament Presbyterian church .
I like hearing different messages and sermons. The Catholic church I attend, the Monsignor is really heavy, and I have asked myself in the past, why doesnāt he do some fasting? That message is in his bible.
Then there is this guy, Father Mike. He fasts and works out a lot. He is a young hip priest from Minnesota. He is a youth leader in the church.
My kids like to watch his lessons.
Understandā¦ I try to study as much as I can myself, asking for HolySpirt to guide me. This men are that same as you and I imperfect ā¦ the Bible, when we look at it without a predetermined idea, with the HS as our guide, we will find it tru meaning imhoā¦
Anyone who says the know God and the Bible and also says you are supposed to not fast is wrong regardless of the why in their soulā¦
Fasting is literally a duty no different from daily devotion timeā¦
One of my tools for extending a fast, and there are different kinds of fasting of course, but when I want to āclean fastā, I drink black coffee or green tea with salt in it. (not table salt)
The salt makes the coffee less bitter and helps keep electrolytes up so you donāt start feeling weak or vanquished.
Itās a real hunger diminisher too.
Those that fast, how long do you typically do it for? I have been doing some fasting since the new year and am down about 10-15 lbs. I typically just eat 2 meals a day within 6-8 hours of each other and fast the rest of the day. Once a week, I will also do about 36-42 hour fast.
I have reduced the amount of sugar I consume. But I havenāt given up my beers just yet. Otherwise been trying lower carbs.
I am trying to do one meal a day right now. Yesterday I did two meals.
So at least a 16 hour fast per day for me, but usually I hit about an 18 hour fast.
How much I am working out affects my hunger level too.
I hurt my back 3 weeks ago, so I am not doing any workouts presently.
Did you join the Facebook groups that I linked above?
Yes, been following since I started fasting, so I am still new to it all. I see a lot that makes sense and a lot that is a little too far out there for me. My only issue is I am overweight. I donāt have diabetes, high blood pressure, etc. Where you see a lot of people on there have some serious health issues that they do like 5 day fasts and such, that is not in my perview.
Right, I am not opposed to longer fasts, but I think some people do too much of it.
Jason Fungās advice seems pretty reasonable to me though, if you read what he suggests.
I am a big believer in trying to hit micronutrient goals daily.
For example, iodine, magnesium, vitamin C and etc.
So, meal composition choices become even more important when fasting since caloric intake is usually reduced.
Not bad goals to have. Most of the foods when i eat give me a lot of what I need to get those. I love brussel sprouts and broccoli, although my toilet probably hates it. I need to do more research on it overall, I have started to read Fungās book and might hit a couple more before moving on in case of a stall in weight loss in the future.
Did you get too hungry?
Yes, 20 hours is definitely tougher than 16 or even 18 hours.
I do like the feeling I get when hitting about 20 hours. I start to feel fairly relaxed and slightly high. Kind of hard to explain in words for me.
I just started experimenting with consuming about 25 to 45 grams of whey protein with my dinner. I want to see what that does for me during next day fasting.
