Fire Dan… make Staley interim… SELL!

Fun that all these types of threads are getting necro’d (or shall I say neCROW’d, I digress) with lots of “nananan-boo boo nice take bruh!”…but be careful, everything looks aces and rainbows for the moment, but if the team finishes the season on an 0-7 run, these threads will be teanaggin everybody in no time…tis a slippery slope from cockstruttery to ohhhh fuckery…

I think that any “hot-take” in season thread that is created can justifiably be brought back to light if it goes south. Maybe it will teach people to not be such knee-jerk reactionaries just because a process isn’t playing out the exact way they want to see it. If you want to Chicken Little, there is a time and place for it. It is called the game day chat.

Well that’s no fun, then what’s the point of the board if there’s no over/under reaction hot take threads?!

Oh, I am sure plenty of good things could be discussed without “fire the coach, trade half the team, sell the franchise!” hot takes.

Also, I am pretty sure most hot-takers will not heed my eminent wisdom if the Lions fall to the Bills 44-7 on Thursday.

Really??

So from 2009 until 2021, Lions has NEVER won against a +.500 team after week 5 of the season?

That’s crazy.

5 games over .500

They cherry picked that stat a bit, but still interesting

Agree…

Basically not many wins vs 11-4 or 7-2 type teams at the time we played them.

Also- it was a flailing Cards, playoff resting Packers and yesterday.

Whether it’s coaches, players, playing time, draft picks, UFA signings or lack there of, cap management, etc . . . we all want to win. We just have different views of how to do it.

I recognize when we are debating in this forum that for those of you who don’t agree with me are just misguided in your views, but I do understand you all want to win.

That was hurtful.

I don’t want to change any of the over-reactions, any of the histrionics, any of the joy, frustrations or excesses. The Mods can do that if someone is truly over the top. The gameday threads are pure gold and are fun to read on a 15 minute delay when you’ve been watching the game and know what followed. (I still contribute in the moment and sometimes get caught back up.)

That and threads like this are fascinating to me. And I’m not hating on anyone.

I have to admit, I’m so friggin glad that the Lions have won 3 in a row.

  1. I like Dan Campbell and truly did not want the Lions to fire him, but was firmly on the side that believed he should be fired if the Lions were at 1-11 after Thanksgiving.

  2. I hate thinking about draft probabilities before Thanksgiving. It sucks.

  3. I think it’s huge for the current players/core of the team to win as much as possible in the long run. I think winning more games > landing a great player high in the draft. (With a few extremely rare exceptions that aren’t known until a player has been in the league for a bit)

I don’t expect them to beat the Bills, but just the fact that they have showed they can win is huge.

We’ve seen this coaching staff blow games, but now we’ve also seen them outcoach other teams too. Frankly, the Lions coaches outcoached the crap out of Daboll and his crew yesterday.

We’ve seen the players make some mistakes and contribute to losses. We’ve seen them also make game-changing plays that result in the Lions winning…Especially some of our youngest players like Hutch and Joseph. These are great signs.

As of now, I’m chalking up the horrible start of this season to 1) Dan Campbell being outrageously aggressive and making some really poor choices at key times and 2) A crazy, massive amount of injuries.

Campbell’s decision making has improved. The team is getting healthier. They are winning. Let’s see if they can keep it going and prove it’s not a fluke.

Seems we were in similar situations
Last year lost 10 in a row then starting to look like a team improving, this year started out bad again now starting to improve.

I think a big part of that is the defense is actually making plays. 6 interceptions the past 3 games and a fumble recovery. Early in the season, Dan clearly didn’t trust the defense and kept being so overly aggressive. With the defense playing much better, he’s much more willing to punt and trust the defense.

Was Pleasant really that bad of a coach!? Really makes you wonder what was really going on behind the scenes.

One would think a position coach doesn’t influence the game in such a dramatic fashion. And if so, that’s still a failing of the HC-DC to let a position coach affect the gameplay in such a profound way

Yea we will likely never know the whole story. His official title was passing game coordinator as well, how much power did he actually have!?

If you go through the losses, Campbell isn’t to blame half as much as some posters would have you believe.

Eagles - lost a close game to a very good team. Goff throws a pick 6 and the D can’t make a stop all game.

Vikings - lost a close game to a good team. Campbell makes a bad call (and some other questionable ones), and the D is nowhere to be seen on the GWD.

Seahawks - lost a close game to a decent team. Goff throws a pick 6 and the D is hot garbage.

Patriots - got blown out by a decent team. Campbell makes several errors not kicking an early FG and going for every 4th down, but the key play is a bad fumble by Goff returned for a TD, albeit on a 4th and 9 when kicking a FG makes it 6-3.

Cowboys - got blown out by a good team. The D shows up but the offense turns it over on five second half possessions, with Goff accounting for four of them.

Dolphins - lost a close game to a good team. Up 10 at the half, the offense goes scoreless on all three second half drives.

Campbell’s game management plays a role in two games. Very bad D plays a role in three games. Goff turning the ball over plays a role in four games. Bad overall offense plays a role in two games. Yes Campbell has overall responsibility for all of it, but he does delegate the immediate responsibility to Glenn, Goff and Johnson and they’ve all messed up at key moments as well.

In the last three games though, we’ve seen less of Dan Gamble, the D has stepped up and generated some turnovers, the O has fired when we needed it and Goff has kept things clean and tidy. We’ve seen complimentary football leading to three good wins. That reflects pretty well on Campbell since things could easily have spiralled at 1-6.

It’s too early to say Campbell will definitely be a success, but this mini-turnaround is encouraging.

I’m glad we took the FG points early. And used Fox to change field positions. Campbell seems to be settling into a coach who can manage games

I still disagree with turning down the yardage on the holding penalty. I’ll take 2nd and 18 and out if FG range over 3rd and 8

But it’s nice to see the Lions putting together drives without the flags flying. That tells me this team is playing more disciplined and that’s good coaching. It could also mean the refs are easing up on the weekly screw job but either way……The PTSD Lions fan in me was looking for the flag every time the offense or defense made a good play

The Boo-birds and haters will be back after the next loss. They seem to have a hard time controlling their emotions.
