We would have gotten a compensatory draft pick just outside of the first round if we let him walk.
They would have gotten a comp pick for him if they kept him.
Between the first and second round iirc.
My bad. Well, heres to hoping.
The tigers are the new SOL
It seems like he might be learning on the job. Complete whiff last year when not realizing that a guy with a no trade clause doesnāt have to waive it. And now they probably had better deals earlier, got greedy, and left with the ugly duckling.
Sweeney plays SS in 25.
Liranzo, switch hitting plus arm catcher w power from both sides. May be a sneaky 1b play.
Getting the comp pick from holding Flaherty means a 35 to 40 pick and 2-3 years waiting.
So basically Liranzoā¦with a Sweeney kicker.
Better than comp pick. Orioles out after getting 2 starters. Yankees vs Dodgers and they liked this pqckage better.
Given what Kikuchi went for, though okder guys, Id have liked a little more juice.
Now, re-sign Flaherty and they are free, basically
Good post by @weaselpuppy.
From the Athletic
Liranzo has been one of the fastest-rising prospects in the Dodgersā system, with a unique ability to hit at 21 years old for a switch-hitting catcher. Trey Sweeney came to the Dodgers this past winter as part of a 40-man roster clearing swap for Victor GonzĆ”lez and Jorbit Vivas. Sweeney has a .761 OPS in 440 plate appearances this year in Triple A.
Sometimes (a lot of the time), I wonder why I chose to go back to being a Tigers fan instead of continuing to be a Dodgers fan.
Good post and reading some on Liranzo I think you are right.
Wished for more but not a horrific deal as I was thinking initially.
Just remember what we all thought about Lee last year, and where he is now.
Not really. Lad made him look like a bitch. I perfer getting the comp pick.
@frm710 stop with man crush.
He has some work to do with the bat, but some interesting tidbits as well
There is huge switch-hitting power here ā Liranzo hit 24 bombs in the Cal League, hit a ball 114 mph, and had a 48% hard-hit rate last year. He can hit for power from the left side even when he isnāt taking his best swing, and heās dangerous from the right side even though he uses super conservative footwork, generating everything with a shift in his weight and the strength of his hands
What I donāt know about several of the starters traded, Kikuchi for one, is how many of the starters traded were two month rentals vs control beyond October?
Never heard of this account but they have over 32000 followers.
And with this one Iām off to a Miami brewery and dinner.
Thayron Liranzo, C
Age: 21
Liranzo is an offensive-minded catcher with big-time thump from both sides of the plate. His swing mechanics and overall approach, however, might need a little cleaning up in order to make more contact. Still, he should easily produced 20 or more homers at the highest level. Heās got a strong arm behind the plate that is somewhat muted by a longer arm stroke but is only a marginal receiver. Heās a 20-grade runner who has also seen time at first base and might move there on a permanent basis. In his time at the position, heās shown solid instincts and hands.
Just seems like he made a deal at the last minute to avoid another empty haul. Problem was, this time he didnāt have to make a deal.
Some people are good at making deals. And some arenāt.
But the reality is most here, including me, have no idea who these guys are yet are making final determinations are
Iām underwhelmed at first but the more I read about the guy I think Weasel nailed it he is better than the comp pick.
So, not saying it is great or good just that I donāt know and I donāt know the impact the back issue and rental had on the return. This staff seems to understand somethings when it comes to developing.
And now Iām leaving, lol.
