On November 22, 1963 , William Clay Ford Sr. purchased a controlling interest in the Detroit Lions at a shareholders meeting in downtown Detroit. This historic acquisition occurred the same day President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas, Texas.

Similar to Farrah Fawcett passing away on the same day as Michael Jackson…WCF buying the Lions, like Farrah’s demise, was overshadowed by a larger event, but catastrophically tragic in its own right. The horrific fate of the Detroit Lions needed to simmer for a few years before the final seasoning of Russ Thomas was added to complete the train wreck.
