Former Bears LB Briggs would not draft Caleb Williams in any scenario

This same Lance Briggs???

He has CTE… according to himself….

And can’t keep track of his fast car…… :hushed:
but he took an Uber home that day… :smirk:

That touches on a hypothetical question I had yesterday:

Could Justin Fields approach Jalen Hurts’ career arc if he had transferred to, say, Michigan where he would have been immersed in a system closer to the pros and then perhaps be drafted by the Niners? Hurts going to Oklahoma and then the Eagles sure had a more nurturing path, if the goal was playing in the NFL.

Caleb is playing and talking himself off the pedestal.

I think his progression (or lack thereof) is more attributable to the dumpster fire that is Da Bears.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see Fields have a minor resurgence on a new team later.

Not to mention that he comes from a 1 read offense. Witch doesn’t always transfer well to the NFL.

Fields could be good I think if he didn’t have the biggest shit show of a coaching staff and front office surrounding him. Anyone would fail in that situation. Get a better staff in and I think Fields could be fine. But the way it is now, they could bring in a Joe Montana Tom Brady Barry sanders clone and that would get shut down and fail!

Fields is a one read offense. We see how well that turned out

Instead of trying to design the offense to fit Fields’ talents, the Bears OC is trying to fit a square peg in a round hole. Fields isn’t a traditional drop back pocket passer.

Now, it may be in Fields’ long-term best interest to play in such a system. After all, after some initial brilliance, RG III, who played a similar style, wore out quickly due to injuries.

If Williams comes out this year: I think this is the worst year to act high and mighty and think you can choose your next place. There are a lot of good to great QB prospects this year that can come out. Thus, teams can simply choose to not draft him first overall. Or, they can wait until later rounds and force him to take a pay cut. His demands and overall demeanor, this season, doesn’t say “leader”. They say “I’m gonna get mine”. And that’s fine. But you can’t be spokesman for yourself as an individual and be a team spokesman at the same time at QB. You’re a direct reflection of the Head Coach and I don’t see a coach saying “Do you…we’ll adjust”. The last was Daniel Hackett and Pete Caroll with Russell Wilson. Neither’s outcome was ideal.

I am a total homer but I would rather have McCarthy for the NFL as a qb than anyone. He has great size, throwing power, accurate bullets, and is very athletic and can really run and amazingly he can even break tackles. Remember that run against Ohio State last year near the sideline? This guy will be an NFL stud and I imagine scouts could be drooling over him.

I read what you’re saying, but if there were multiple reads I’d be lost.

If I was Bears GM…I’d give Fields a new 10 year contract averaging 55 mill per season. Fully guaranteed. What could possibly go wrong.

I think Drake Maye is the best QB in this class and most upside.

That was a fun usc Utah game last night. Was impressed with the Utah RBs and QB. I didn’t see the whole game was flipping back and forth, but it seemed like Caleb Williams did a few things but was otherwise neutralized pretty well by Utah. Utah was winning pretty handily and dominating pretty well in the 3rd I think then seemed to maybe let up a bit.

Anyway fun game! Not overly impressed with Caleb Williams but it was one game. Though the limited times I have seen him play I haven’t been blown away either.
