# 5 ways Detroit Lions can spend extra salary cap room: Potential pass rush help abounds
Full article at Link.
The Detroit Lions have more than $40 million in salary cap room, according to the latest NFL Players Association public salary cap report, and will gain more room once Frank Ragnow’s retirement becomes official.
The Lions would like to keep about half that space to get through the season, for practice squad players and to afford any injury replacements, trade additions and other expenses that may come up.
No roster additions appear imminent, and the team still would like to sign Aidan Hutchinson to an extension before the start of the season.

DeMarcus Walker, free agent DE
There are bigger-name pass rushers still available in free agency, like Smith, Von Miller and Matthew Judon, but Walker visited the Lions earlier this spring and quietly had a productive season last year for the Chicago Bears.
Walker turns 31 in September, so he’s no different from the other vets on this list. He had 3½ sacks in 17 starts last season and has the size (6 feet 4, 280 pounds) the Lions like in their big defensive ends. He won’t break the bank and won’t set any sack records, but he would give the Lions more veteran insurance up front.
