i didn’t read the article. but the Bengals draft is all about Joe Burrough. The Rams have hit it out of the park the past two drafts.

Another interesting fact about the Lions’ drafting is that over the last five years they’ve selected 12 players from Big Ten schools and 10 from the SEC – that’s 58 percent of all picks in that span from the two-best conferences. It helps to take players from schools that face quality competition on a near-weekly basis.

Three lessons the Patriots can learn from the Lions in the draft include: be aggressive via trade, highlight speed/playmaking talent, and take players from elite-level college programs that have a proven track record of development and top-tier coaching.

It’s easier said than done, but the Patriots aren’t going to climb out of their rebuild anytime soon unless their drafts significantly improve.

I noticed this as they ran through the OL player intros on TV last week…

Taylor Decker- The Ohio. Glasgow-Michigan, Ragnow-Arkansas, Zeitler- Wisconsin, Sewell-Oregon.

Minny was Bojangles State, North Texas Southern, Redwood JC, Lieutenant Dan College and CMU.

It isn’t like the Lions have kept any of this secret.

  1. Draft good football players that love to play ball.
  2. Build your trenches.
  3. When your guy is out there, go get him.
  4. No one is bigger than the team and no one is untouchable.
  5. Take chances, get messy, make mistakes (Magic School Bus reference)… with talented but injured free agents on cheap short-term deals. Eventually one will work out.
  6. Draft position is merely a suggestion. Stay true to your board.
  7. Believe your scouting.
  8. Take care of your core.

It sounds so easy. It obviously isn’t.
