From what I’ve seen from Hooker and his lack of pocket movement. I think he needs to play in a shotgun offense where the running game is more him dumping short passes to a RB when he’s under pressure. Kind of like Stafford in his early career.
I thought gambling with a 3rd rounder was a good idea, but he has looked lost. I think that injury really set him back, woulda been a 1st rounder for sure. Some guys dont miss a beat after such injuries, not him unfortunately.
KA has won #2, so I guess we keep HH as emergency 3rd qb?
If you believe his issue stems from his injury, sure, I’m the opposite end; I don’t think he can run the offense. Can’t pick up schemes quickly and diagnose where to go with the ball after the first read. That was the issue at TN and why I was not a huge fan of the pick, worth a gamble ok. But, is the outcome I thought it would be.
I was a well known “hater” of Hooker’s pre-draft, but like I said when we took him, if Brad believes in him in the 3rd, then he almost has to take him. The value of QB is just too high, it’s worth rolling the dice (and of course Holmes had forgotten more about scouting than I’ll ever know). So while I didn’t like the player, I was fine with the pick. I am wrong all the time about QB and I know it. Was hoping this was one of those times.
Yeah, it was such a bad injury, other guys who have tried to come back from it have said it affected their play. Not sure that was the case with HH, havent heard him say it, but could be a reason for his struggles. I was sure rooting for the guy.
The problem with using his injury as an excuse is that it doesn’t work
The injury wasn’t to his brain. And between the ears is where he is struggling. He looks like he doesn’t belong in the NFL mentally not physically.
The guy is athletic as hell so to me he looks as good or better than he was at Tennessee. But there is a giant difference between success as a QB In college and in the NFL. I mean, Vince Young was the most dominant COLLEGE QB I have ever seen. But look how he faired in the NFL
