Let’s wipe out all of the good microbes, eh?
Now imagine the daily exposure in everything else we eat.
What if explaining all of the strange modern problems is really as simple as saying “garbage in, garbage out.”
A little off topic from your post. I do think the GI tract is under studied as far as disease prevention and cures go.
I also think that Ozempic as a fad weight loss is a terrible idea. Anything that slows down motility is a recipe for disaster.
I know your post had nothing to do with Ozempic. But I was just talking a friend out of using it as an easy button to lose a few pounds.
I have heard many Dr.'s say the long term side effects are going to be very ugly. Just don’t know what they are yet.
Great, now I have to poop
It’s wild waiting for the other shoe to drop on Ozempic and the rest.
It has certainly helped a lot of people already, but when something sounds too good to be true…
Shoving gummies up there can cause that to happen.
GLP’s have a long history of safety in use with Diabetics. But given the number of diseases that obesity is a risk factor for, more widespread use is probably justifiable to reduce HC costs and morbidity. Also combine this with reduction in spine related diseases (now currently under long term outcome study), chronic pain, etc and there could be tremendous reductions in opioid use, unemployment, etc. Now, of course this could all be achieved with education, follow up, and resources to eat healthy. But apparently we aren’t prioritizing that enough in this country. If people want to use this as a cheat code to lost weight so be it. Just keep it off, get healthy, and be active.
Right, I was thinking the same thing. I remember reading a few years ago that Bob’s Red Mill Organic Oatmeal had levels of glyphosate detected. It’s in everything. It seems that Bob has at least recognized and acknowledged this and made corrective moves.
I eat a metric ton of Greek yogurt and don’t really drink much beer. Hopefully my flora is solid.
Fiber intake is my Achilles heal.
I agree. The good news is, there seems to be a growing consensus that the GI tract and its health is connected not only to physical health, but good mental health. From what I read, there is a lot of work going on exploring beneficial bacteria like L. Reuteri and L. Gasseri, to name a few. Those two strains produce something called bacteriocins (antimicrobial compounds). Those compounds can kill bad bacteria that live in the gut and help produce a healthy gut environment.
Recently, I started fermenting juices with specific strains like these two, to help eliminate a systemic fungus infection that I have, and it’s working. They strongly boost your immune system.
I agree with that as well. A lot of negative side effects for some folks being reported.
You know what the most beneficial thing for my mental health is? Getting up at the butt crack of dawn, walking to the Y (a reasonable 1.7m) and kicking the shit out of myself at the gym.
Then if my day, serves me a shit sandwich, as is inevitable in lodging, I’m still able to hang my hat on my productive start to the day.
Whatever your self-development goal is, attack it first thing in the morning. Couldn’t recommend that approach strongly enough.
Oh yeah, one other mental health tip … never have employees
I’m a big fan of intermittent fasting. Its free and easy to do, plus produces great outocomes for most folks.
Sure … but also you don’t get the downstream effects.
Get in shape the right way and the resulting downstream discipline permeates and benefits all aspects of your life.
Good tip.
And walk, people. Walk and then walk and then walk some more. It’s also free.
Does anybody own a rucking pack? Been thinking about grabbing one but don’t know how high up the $$$ scale is necessary.
That is a huge plus. Daylight, even in winter in the morning. Infrared waves, penetrate the skin and increase health.
I lost the most weight ever when I walked daily 3-7miles.
Need to restart especially with all the travelling I’m doing now.
Right, rucking is popular. I have not rucked per say, but I walk a lot with my small back pack. Heavy water bottle and gym clothes in it.
