Giovanni Manu: Breaking down the Lions OT's first career start

It was a mistake to start him at LT, if they want him on the field than it should be RT unless or until he has proven to be competent enough to be a starting LT in the NFL.

This is the part that many on here seem to be glossing over.

Decker makes mistakes. Especially against the speed rush.

Manu is starting so far back from most guys it is hard to grasp. You have Tater who was competing against the best and had elite coaching since probably 9th grade…LOL. Manu likely had little knowledge of the NFL at 15. Then played in Canada for college……I did not even realize there was college football in Canada…..which logically of course but I just had never really even thought about it.

They should’ve put Brock next to him

This is the whole thing. On that play no excuse not having someone come help chip.

They used RBs and TEs pretty regularly on his side to help… He has to be put on an island at some point from time to time

Then you risk messing with the entire cohesive unit… Tate could struggle along with Manu and Sewell/Mahogany aren’t in sync on the left side either… Much easier to put Manu at LT and give him help

Hilarious. Worked 78 hours last week and 29 hours Monday and Tuesday.

I meant to say 2010.

Love it. Hilarious.

Actually he does not

And let me clarify. Sure against an average DE no problem but Hendrickson is top 5 maybe?

I am a huge fan of the Manu experiment. But you have to be realistic. In that situation you gotta think about giving him help.

:joy:. I never even heard of Canada before.

You also negate our biggest run blocking strength which seems to be Tate and Penei working in tandem. In time Mahogs and Penei can get there as well but like you said it would take time for the cohesion to build in duo concepts and what not.

Shit, I try not to work 78 hours in a month. Did you get all the fries in the bags? :joy::joy:. Just messing with you, brother. Hopefully you get some rest over the next few days.

So damn funny that there’s several threads now on Manu, probably coming up on 400 total posts. Has there ever been a fourth round pick by the Lions that generated this much conversation after one game? :joy:

Tate didn’t have a great game. Of the options I would prefer it would be to cover him with a TE, start some one else or put him on the right.

6 depositions in 7 days with a long-winded female attorney who loves hearing the sound of her own voice and asks tons of irrelevant questions.

Ugh. Brutal. Thankfully, I’ve never had to be deposed. My company likes to keep me hidden in a back closet so as not to expose the blithering idiot that I am. :joy:

Are you in the Senate?

Our company is suing another and I have been told to save all emails and any data regarding this supplier. I am really hoping I do not get asked to actually speak to anyone on the topic……I am an idiot. I literally prefer to live the mantra of the truth will set you free. Which I feel like once attorneys get involved the truth will be somehow used against you…..LOL

Bols, just mention my name next time. You said you were done talking about it but here we go again. The difference between what you’re saying and the actual reality is this.

I didn’t like that we traded a future 3rd to draft this guy in the 4th (don’t care who the player is I absolutely hate doing that). That has nothing to do with how this player is right now. Just my opinion. I hated the Isaac Teslaa trade too but glad he is working out alright and hope he develops is a future starter.

I asked lots of questions about this guy from ā€œactualā€ people who might know how he is doing in his rookie year. The report I got was NOT good at all. I was upset because this is a guy we gave up a lot to get and he was also taking up an extremely valuable spot on a 53 man roster in which Dan Skipper was our only back-up tackle capable of coming in the game last year.

Skip to the end of the year and checked back to see if there was progress. Basically told no.

I brought that to the board thinking folks might be interested in hearing our future LT might not be it, and I basically was called every name in the book. I still read this board on the daily but decided in June to stop posting, not worth the hassle and will most likely stop posting here in the future.

If you watch the all-22 and the game on Sunday, there is zero denying, he isn’t ready this year to be in a game. As a die hard Lions fans, this is upsetting as we have a Super Bowl caliber team and there is zero reason a guy that won’t be ready for 3 more years should be our back-up LT. I apologize for feeling that way but you can dislike a player and still want the best for the team. I was the same way with Will Harris a couple years ago, didn’t mean I didn’t want to win.
