Glover Quin Speaks Out

I’m sorry but it is hard to take you seriously about having an issue with someone for belittling players when you refer to the guy as Fat Matt and have also made fun of and belittled people on the den.

Bob Quinn and Matt Patricia was brought in to change the culture. The culture in Detroit has been bad. It has been described as “country club”. Matt Patricia came in hard and hot mimicking the ways of Belichick. Some blast him here and say he is a copy cat and not original. But the guy spent 14 years in New England. Belichick was his mentor. It makes sense that a guy would in some fashion mimic and bring what he is familiar with when he becomes his own man, ESPECIALLY IF IT WAS SUCCESSFUL. Mike Floria made a great point in an article @bigstupidjerk posted. I recommend you read it if you haven’t already. MP can be aggressive and he can be even wrong but he is doing the same exact things that Belichick does w his stars. Belichick took a huge gamble. He could have failed in New England and we would have heard about these same type of complaints. But he won Super Bowls and winning cures all. Now when we hear about disgruntled players we blow it off bc it’s the hoodie and the hoodie wins Super Bowls. MP isn’t the only coach to do these types of things. MP comes in and makes players run sprints. Media Writes it in a bad light. When Freddie kitchens does it in Cleveland he was praised for having control of his practices in his first year. MP takes out the ping pong tables and tells people to get in their playbooks, Tate hated that. First thing Ron Rivera did when he came here to DC was to get rid of ping pong tables and told the local radio guys on their shows he is trying to change the culture, get rid of the country club vibe in the locker room. He doesn’t get grief for it bc he is a winner. Remember Tate got benched after essentially pouting on the field and not trying a few years back against Chicago’…LOVE Tate…but he was an influencer…sometimes not for the good…and yet they did try to resign him and he wanted more money.

As mike floria said, had Belichick not won, he would have been out quick. MP has to win this year or he will just become another career DC. All reports have said, even from Slay, that MP has changed over the last year. He has seen some mistakes and is making coaching changes. Dude has said the number one issue with the defense was coverage, dudes couldn’t cover on man…they go out and get 3-4 pass coverage players. He will either sink or swim In this year.

And yes, I’m one of those people who believes that had stafford not gotten hurt we are closer to a 8-9 win team. Optics look a lot better on a team that has 14-15 wins in two years rather then 9. But if we are a 8-9 win team we don’t get a shot at young or Okudah. We just lost our best corner and don’t have realistic shot at replacing him w an elite blue chip talent at 3.

Very nicely said.

People…this is how you post a reply and not belittle or attack someone. There is an adult in the room;)

Please. The faux outrage over referring to Patricia’s fat ass is ridiculous and beyond insincere.

I don’t know if you’re confusing me with someone else or what, not that it really matters that much. I don’t do that, but even if I did, I can’t believe I post regularly enough for anyone to really know me or remember any specific post.

No, they were brought in to win.

…by a bunch of posters here. People who have a fetish for a “drill sergeant”. People who think that treating athletes like the responsible and competitive professionals that they are is “soft”.

Matt Patricia came in and acted like an asshole. To players, the media, everyone. He acted as if he had credibility because he got to stand next to Belichick.

Then he proceeded to fail spectacularly. He took a 9-7 team and turned it into a loser, and then blames everyone and everything but himself and his terrible strategies and people management skills.

That’s a shit “culture” if you ask me, ESPECIALLY GIVEN THAT IT’S BEEN UNSUCCESSFUL.

Just what I was alluding to. “It’s not my strategy, it’s the secondary that’s garbage.” Hmm… I wonder why all of these DBs don’t like him.

Let’s look at the data (posted by @GreggyJ before) …

So Patricia’s great strategy was to rush by far the fewest people and give opposing passers by far the most time to throw over the course of the season. And when it doesn’t work, he throws his secondary under the bus.

What a leader. What great culture.

That’s good enough? Then why was Caldwell fired?

Agreed. But he better not get some lowered bar. A record of 8-8 or 9-7 isn’t good enough. He was brought in because 9-7 wasn’t good enough. He shouldn’t get credit for turning the team into a dumpster fire for two years and then “improving” to a .500ish record.

I am not confusing you with someone else. This is not faux outrage, this is who I am and what I do. I make a point to call out hypocrisy. As an example, you in the past made fun of @DeadDog for posting during the day and saying it was ironic that someone was talking how one should be in the workplace when they themselves were on a sports forum during working hours and you completely disregarded the reality that not all people work, don’t work 9-5 or God forbid be on vacation.

The rest of your post is telling me how I am wrong and you digging down on your point. So it isn’t really worth my time to respond.

Yet you responded and he is still correct.

Yes…@Doctor_Love for the win!!! Sorry @QBHATER90

BTP: I don’t agree with essentially anything you say. Your opinion on who is right or wrong doesn’t really matter to me based on your body of work and what you have expressed over time as to what your opinions are on a lot of different topics. I responded to a person bc I initiated the interaction with him. The biggest point I care about is the hypocrisy. Calling someone Fat Matt while critiquing is belittling of others is hypocritical. Telling me it is FAUX on my part is belittling my opinion and thoughts on something I value.

I am responding to you simply bc you spoke directly to me. Fine, you think he is right. I think he is wrong. I think you are wrong a lot of time.

Hahahaha …What?

…Me saying I have no issue with rules and policies and a Coach that expects them to be followed has no bearing on Patrcia’s performance here…one has nothing to do with the other .

And again what is that you think was being discussed in my response to Linebusy that you quoted …what is the context of what was being said ?

Me referencing and liking Johnny Damon and shaving his beard has zero to do with actually shaving his beard or Matt Patricia and his appearance …and certainly not because I dislike facial hair…

The point , not that it should have to be explained because that should easily be understood… was that the George Steinbrenner had a facial hair policy that many managers and players considered dumb , not relevant & that it had no bearing on players performance…right or wrong , valid or not, it was a rule that was followed because Steinbrenner wanted it that way…even with his death…it is still followed today.
Why? Because it’s a rule, inmates don’t run the prison (Trigger :exploding_head:)

You are right you are not here enough… I have no Love for Patricia …I was the BIGGEST Caldwell supporter and wanted nothing to do with letting him go, it was a mistake then and still is in my opinion …

I am wrong a lot of times. Who isn’t?

I think Patricia stealing tens of millions of dollars will get him over a fat joke or 2. Not sure he needs protectors on the den message board.

I don’t care that he’s a slob, I care that he sucks at being a head coach. Andy Reid isn’t slim, but he coaches circles around most guys in the league. Which is why I wanted him before we got Caldwell, and the cheap lazy owner took the easy way out again. Fast forward till now and the head coach is a disaster again and he still has nobody to answer to. So, I’m fine with fans being pissed and players being pissed and calling him out. The owners sure as shit doesn’t give a flying fuck about the fans or winning.

Hey fellas, long time no talk, hope everybody’s safe and feeling OK.

So just want to note here: the most important part of an NFL head coaches’ job is getting his players to buy in. Navigating big personalities, finding the right mix of encouraging/cajoling/haranguing for every guy on your roster, most especially your best players, who are likely to be multi-millionaires with big egos. THAT’S THE GIG.

If you just want to come up with cool schemes, then stick to being an assistant. If you want to be an NFL head coach, and the only way you can do it is by getting rid of the best players in your locker room, then you’re not cut out for the job.

For me I never get or understand this actual stance .Mainly because most never offer up the expectations they had and if those expectations matched the plan in place …really a plan we have no say in, or even the plan we think is in place, is even the plan at all … Yet our expectations are emotional… based often off of our perception of what the plan is …Are we right on track ? Did Quinn and Patricia know 3 years in would be the target for big improvement based on what they deemed needed to be done?

I would truly understand the “they suck” sentiment expressed by you and many others if this had been a Marty Mornhinweg to Steve Mariucci situation …it’s just not .

The Offense kind of stayed the course and produced when healthy… similar results …

If the argument was… look Patricia sucks because he took the Defense & did not change it , ran the same system and scheme that was already here, with the same skill set players and made it so much worse I would be on board …It’s not that situation …

The literal sense of what was said was 9-7 is not good enough…it’s correct , it’s not .
I believed Quinn when he made the statement. I expected better , wanted better and wanted it fast and that was my initial mistake and holding him to those words as if he meant …right away…That was my disconnect …mostly because I was pissed we let Caldwell go and my expectation of fast based on what really was not possible with the turnover of the system and skill set needed to run it.

For me Patricia is incomplete, unfair to look at the results thus far and make such claims he sucks. I blame that more on Quinn and injuries, really both personnel related and the skill set not here to do the job, as well as the learning curve …and now also knowing more on the lack of players buying in or an undermining behind the scenes in the locker room that has been in place since day one for Patricia …self inflicted or not .

I think the ultimatum made at the end of the season is fluff . I think the Lions at the very least or going to allow them to continue past this season and they bought in on what was being sold …a culture change that would take time, patience , a get worse before it gets better a likely pitch by Quinn to Martha when he let Caldwell go . I can not at this point say it was or is wrong …the proof is the 60 years , quitting on it 2 years in, with what is trying to be done would be a mistake … and doing so when the ingredients are still being added and still in the bowl it cant be tasted yet…The last thing I want is to start over and dump it out .

I energetically gave up on this thread a long time ago. I feel ike we should change the title of it to “The drama” and see if that fits better.

Not directed toward any one person in particular. I promise I won’ the losing any sleep over what some cyber-dude with a funny internet name says.

Agreed …A self inflicted wound/mistake by Patricia , a mistake that Patricia realized and learned from …most here recognize that, the players recognized that …Slay did as well, but for him he could not let it go …I think him not letting it go has had a far greater impact team wise thus far then most will admit .

The message was misconstrued, definitely in hindsight the wrong player to deliver the intended message to , in the way it was delivered. Perhaps even the wrong time in tenure to do so.
Mistakes made by a Rookie HC and a player that made his issue , a team issue & ultimately the millionaires, stay millionaires and the results and fans that truly matter suffer.

I haven’t posted here for the last year because my assumption was that this entire organization is a dumpster fire, led by people who don’t have the first clue what they’re doing, and the results on the field reflect that. My position has not changed.

You can be as hopeful as you want, certainly, your life, your fandom. I’m going to believe my own eyes. I know what a good team looks like. I know what a promising young team on the upswing looks like. This ain’t it.

I also know what a rudderless, inept pro sports organization looks like. Got LOTS of experience with that one. Occam’s razor says put aside the four dimensional chess and look at what’s in front of you. These guys are exactly what their record says they are.

Hahahaha…Applying Occam’s razor in a situation that likely had a majority 53 agreeing with the philosophy after one practice and 3 or 4 trying to make sure the philosophy is never applied …is an extremely tough situation with no easy solution for the dynamic …when the end result is a mystery or even different for the 3 or 4 pulling the strings …Winning ? Making Money? Saving Money ? Padding a resume or just going through the motions?

Any way good to see you here, I’m not where you are at …My glass is half full.

Look at this, cant have it …Get off his d**k & stop blowing him… :joy:

This isn’t that complicated. GM’s job is to bring in talent. Head coach’s job is to translate that talent to wins on the field. GM has had four years. Head coach has had two. Results speak for themselves. Current state of every position group on the roster speaks for itself.

I’m not suggesting that these jobs are easy. But telling the difference between whether guys with multiple years in are succeeding or failing at them is pretty straightforward.
