I am looking at the single season record for completion percentage for a single season. Tua Tagaviola topped Jared this year with 72.9, putting him third on the list.
Drew Brees has the record at 74.4, and the #2 spot at 74.3.
Both the #2, and #3 seasons were done with 11 games played. Brees record was in 15 games. Goff did his #4 on the list in 17 games!! Effin’ epic!
Goff is a better passer than Stafford ever was with the Lions.
I still love me some Stafford. HOF in my book.
Goff is going to take us to the promised land. He has a much better cast around him than Staff ever did, but he know how to do what’s gotta be done!
I agree. And, the story on who is the better QB is yet to be written.
Stafford is HOFer in my book as well, especially once he got a ring. But there are really no comparisons between Goff and Stafford careers in Detroit now……other than they both started off on terrible teams.
Adjusted comp% (removes spikes and throw aways)
77.8%!
Drew Brees in 2018. Only 76.5%
so you’re saying 27.6% of the time goff is the worst QB in the league?
what can we get for him?
The beauty is that it’s reasonable to expect most of Jared’s PRIME years to be ahead of him.
He’s signed long-term now, right? QBs in this league are stupid expensive.
This will allow the Lions to stay strong in other places. He’s going to be out of the top 10 in pay in no time. Holmes is s genius!
Agree
I DO NOT still love me some Stafford.
I believe he is a lock for the HOF
I do not believe Goff is as good as Stafford (but I’d rather have Goff)
I do not believe the story and nor does anyone in SoCal, that the meeting on some deserted desert island, between McVay and Stafford was by happenstance.
Everyone knows it was arranged by their mutual friend Clayton Kershaw.
Ironically, if Stafford had stayed he would probably have the chance to win multiple Super Bowls, it’s unlikely he will in LA.
Weasel, question, do those figures include playoffs?
That percentage really isn’t that surprising. With the route running ability or receivers and running backs have and the play calling we had guys wide open all over the place. All Goff had to do is get it close and they would come down with it. Which explains why we only had one opponent defensive pass interference called all season. Can’t get a pi call if you’re nowhere near the receiver.
100% my thoughts.
I may be one of the few but man I always think that I wish we could have set Stafford like we did Goff and I think he would have gotten us there. I will forever love Matt and be grateful for what he did for us.
With that said, JA-RED GOFF, JA-RED GOFF, JA-RED GOFF!
He has been amazing. Rarely does a trade work out so well like this one did for both parties. Jared needed some adversity and a support system and it’s been a story book response from him. I so badly want him to with a SB. Even if it’s with someone else to shut down the naysayers.
Nope
Yeah, Goff is much younger, with less abuse to his body.
Not so sure about that. The picks the Lions received for Stafford had a multiplier effect:
Lions lost:
- QB Matthew Stafford
- 2022 34th overall pick (second round)
- 2022 66th overall pick (third round)
- 2023 81st overall pick (third round)
- 2023 122nd overall pick (fourth round)
- 2023 139th overall pick (fifth round)
Lions gained:
- QB Jared Goff
- WR Jameson Williams (first round, 12th overall)
- RB Jahmyr Gibbs (first round, 12th overall)
- TE Sam LaPorta (second round, 34th overall)
- DL Josh Paschal (second round, 46th overall)
- DT Brodric Martin (third round, 96th overall)
- DB Ifeatu Melifonwu (third round, 101st overall)
Or, simplified:
Lions lost:
- Matthew Stafford
- 1 second-round pick
- 2 third-round picks
- 1 fourth-round pick
- 1 fifth-round pick
Lions gained:
- Jared Goff
- 2 first-round picks
- 2 second-round picks
- 2 third-round picks
The Stafford trade helped the Lions get to where they are today. As I indicated in another thread, had Stafford not balked at going to Carolina and the Lions done the deal with the Panthers for Bridgewater and the No. 8 overall pick (probably Patrick Surtain, DeVonta Smith, or Micah Parsons), the Lions aren’t as good as they are now. Hard to be upset with Stafford when viewed in a big picture sense.
Add in the fact that the two players taken at Nos. 32 (Lewis Cine) & 42 (Andrew Boothe) by the Vikings (in the Jameson Williams trade), were complete busts, that’s the cherry on top.
