Hooker in pre season

That just doesn’t bother me that much. I mean, what QB at the end of his first active season - with no play time under his belt - would be ready to step in for the #1 seed in the playoffs? For his first legit NFL action ever? You’re talking QB savant territory, and very few QBs would qualify, even good ones like Goff and Josh Allen.

Why not take the approach of developing a qb and trading him like the pats did a few times? Hes a FA in 2 years. Why on earth would he re-sign if he’s a stud? Why would we want him if he’s trash? I think we should try to groom him to be a good trade piece next off season and draft a new backup to groom as a future starter or another trade piece if goff continues to ball.

I don’t know why everyone is going so hard on him. He played in real games last season, with backups, and he scored points.

I think that is 100% what we’re trying to do. But how do you make him trade bait? He has to play, and unless Goff gets hurt, he won’t. We won’t get much for him based on his play in the pre-season. Joe Milton stepped in for Maye and played great, and still the Pats only swapped their 7th rounder for the Cowboys 5th out of the deal. Unless they get an extended run, you won’t get anything for them.

Who is the best college QB based on their stats?

You are right, he did say that ans what he didn’t say to the public was he didn’t expect him to be ready for a super bowl push. Bridgewater was coming back no matter what it was something they had talked about during the summer.

4 most important games of his career. Will be the last 4 games of his NFL career if they don’t go well

the point is, he has been here for 4 years, sorry but you got to prove you can hold up as an NFL QB-or get cut. the point of a “backup” QB is a replacement QB for the starter once that starter can’t play X number of games-the back up comes in and takes over , until said starter can return. Hooker has to do something *

Oldest profession…still around to this day.

Before the wheel, before the internet

If Hendon Hooker becomes a great QB, or they feel he’s ready to be the guy then he will replace Goff. It seems like you guys think Goff won’t be or can’t be replaced. In about two years we’ll see where Goff stands. I don’t say this as a negative towards Goff, or some Goff vs Hooker thing.

If Hendon is not good enough to take over, but good enough to be a back-up why can’t they re-sign him? Back-up QB’s aren’t expensive. And high priced back-up QB’s are worth it. If he sucks well, he’ll have a hard time finding any team.

That’s fair. It’s more like most people have given up on him which made me think people want him to fail. Which is not true so thats my bad.

You can feel how you want, but it’s perfectly reasonable to disagree with this take. In fact I think THIS opinion is the least likely of the two, but time will tell.

Good on you for saying this.

I’m not predicting this will happen, but if he does become a great QB it will happen. Thats what we would want. We would want the best QB to be the starter.

I agree completely. I just think there’s a 98+% chance of that being Goff. Hooker’s not gonna have many chances to PROVE he’s better, not in live action, unless Goff gets hurt. So in essence you’re making a bet that Goff will get hurt. Because otherwise Hooker’s not getting any live reps. Maybe a few in blowouts, but that won’t tell us much.

Who?
Hooker has been on the team 2 seasons and spent the first on IR.

I’m beginning to understand Aaron Rodgers attitude better. He had to listen to this kind of shit for 3 years.
Jordan Love did, too.
I’m not saying Hooker is Rodgers or Love. I’m just saying, not a single one of us has a clue what he’s capable of. We’ve never seen him in action with the 1’s.
This is all wild speculation.
Hooker was on IR almost all of his 1st season. What little he played, was with the practice squad, at the end of the season.
He was a well educated rookie, last season.
I’ll say it again. Brad had the option of a rookie or a vet with years of NFL starting experience as the backup for last years playoffs. It would have been criminal negligence not to bring Bridgewater in, having that option.
Most teams don’t have that option! That’s why we have rarely seen it.
Not a single one of us knows who would have actually played if Goff went down.
It’s all assumptions and speculation. That makes the whole conversation, ignorant.

If it’s ignorant, why join in?

Just putting this out there… But what if Bromart moves to QB and Hooker to DT… Now that seems like a no brainer. Hooker turning tricks and doing the dirty work in the A gap!

Strange that the backup QB isn’t the most beloved player on the Lions roster anymore. We’ve come a long way.

Goff born in 1994
Hooker in 1998.
Not even close.
